Topic: The 'war on terror' can never end | |
---|---|
"If you were a US leader, or an official of the National Security State, or a beneficiary of the private military and surveillance industries, why would you possibly want the war on terror to end? That would be the worst thing that could happen. It's that war that generates limitless power, impenetrable secrecy, an unquestioning citizenry, and massive profit."
"Why would anyone in the US government or its owners have any interest in putting an end to this sham bonanza of power and profit called "the war on terror"? Johnson is right that there must be an end to this war imminently, and Maddow is right that the failure to do so will render all the due-process-free and lawless killing and imprisoning and invading and bombing morally indefensible and historically unforgivable. But the notion that the US government is even entertaining putting an end to any of this is a pipe dream, and the belief that they even want to is fantasy. They're preparing for more endless war; their actions are fueling that war; and they continue to reap untold benefits from its continuation. Only outside compulsion, from citizens, can make any of that possible." http://www.smirkingchimp.com/news/47431/the-war-on-terror-by-design-can-never-end |

its a slogan
like 'war on drugs' we have a whole legal drug industry that we refer to as pharmaceuticals,, so of course we have no actual war on 'drugs',,,but the name is a catchier way of saying 'war on those we deem criminal for their involvement with illegal drugs'.... lol ya see how the first slogan is easier to remember? and 'war on terror' is an easier slogn than 'war on those planning and/or implementing attacks on americans or americal allies' |

its a slogan FALSE!...and dangerously false. By declaring a war of any sort, you have empowered the Executive Office of the president to act as Commander-in Chief to prosecute the war. Check your War Powers Act. In declaring war on a concept, instead of a physical enemy, who is there to surrender?...No one. The war will continue until a president declares it over, but what president would ever want to relinquish all his powers and do that? As long as "terror" exists, the war will go on...and on...and on... |

Declaring "war" on something for our government tends to mean they are going to "use any means necessary" to battle their target. Not saying it will be effective, just the ultimate effort will be made.
War on terror was completely useless. War on drugs was completely useless. |

No matter how good we are at playing chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and strut around like it's victorious. |

I dont celebrate war, its a part of life as much as dying is,,, its no more a cause for celebration than illness, but I am not expecting illness to disappear as much as I am hoping that we find ways to reduce it more and more like I hope we can reduce the deaths caused by war, more and more,, I also wasnt aware I was participating in a GAME,,,but that explains alot, |

SHORT TITLE. This joint resolution may be cited as the ``Authorization for Use of Military Force''. SEC. 2. AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES. (a) That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons. (b) WAR POWERS RESOLUTION REQUIREMENTS.-- (1) SPECIFIC STATUTORY AUTHORIZATION.--Consistent with section 8(a)(1) of the War Powers Resolution, the Congress declares that this section is intended to constitute specific statutory authorization within the meaning of section 5(b) of the War Powers Resolution. (2) APPLICABILITY OF OTHER REQUIREMENTS.--Nothing in this resolution supersedes any requirement of the War Powers Resolution." http://www.peaceispatriotic.org/bills/warterror.html This is the War Powers Resolution of 1973: http://www.policyalmanac.org/world/archive/war_powers_resolution.shtml It is also called the War Powers Act by the Senate: http://www.thecre.com/fedlaw/legal22/warpow.htm You'll also have to check acts & resolutions of Congress since 2001 beyond the Authorization for the War on Terror, because it is my understanding that Bush loaded Congreass with a whole lot of stuuf to ensure he could hang on to the executive powers the resolution gave him. Please note that Obama, rather than rescinding a lot of garbage Bush saddled the nation with (like rendition flights & Guantanamo & CIA torture as the best known public examples), and to spite his promise to do so, he has instead not only not rescinded this garbage, but expanded on the executive power of the office of president with a whole lot more egregious violations of American rights, to be suspended at any time of his choosing. This may not be entirely his fault of course…he gets his orders from the Fed. |
