I have been getting many messages from people who say they are overseas, mostly America.
Are Americans really that bad at putting together a sentence?

Well it depends on the University or school they went to :D

Or did not go to.
If I read from another American, who is either in the armed forces, a contractor that moves country to country with their job.
Also have a single child and wants me to go of here to chat.
I am going to scream.

Well, our education system isn't what it once was...But I'd venture a guess that they are not in fact American, should be a report button on their profile, report it and leave it to the admins.

Some people are pretty awful at constructing basic sentences, regardless of geographical positioning.

And I never got a degree... That doesn't stop me from abusing the sentence fragment and producing terrible free-verse in great quantity.

some are unfortunately. I am in the US and I get messages from overseas also - people wanting to come to the west maybe? I am not really sure why someone thousands and thousands of miles away bothers to message me.

unfortunately the American soldiers are probably not American soldiers, the contractors are most likely a scam also. Both are well known online scams dating back several years....amazes me they are still at it! As far as I know the scams originate in nigeria and ghana

This site has perfectly good email and chat functions so there is no logical reason to go off site until you know someone well from here. Even for Skype - take time to get to know them on here first - in my opinion anyway. If he won't talk on the site he probably doesn't have the best intentions.

im thinkin there scams becuase i do know something about them cause i know a couple but usually its maybe like someone wanting money somehow so they can pay for there uni or schooling so they must internet scam people. you can tell like u said there stupid sentences or dont really listen to what u have to say.. maybe this is the case?

It depends on how bad the sentences are constructed. If it is just a few typos and misspellings, they could be lazy Americans. But if it is really bad usually mixed with various amounts of textspeak (phone shorthand) there is a good chance they are from Nigeria. There is a pattern that you can observe on the Mingle theads. There is also a wave of very bad English coming from India but it doesn't seem to be malicious; but mostly childish and rude.

Nobody ever went wrong underestimating the education or intelligence of Americans.

I think its hard to discuss the intelligence of the "Americans" in general since it's so diverse in the states..

There is a lot of political satire involved. All Americans are not informed on all issues. In many cases, many Americans are misinformed about many issues. It is somewhat like Congress. On an individual basis, their IQs would average pretty high, but as a group, acting in the best interest of the American people, they are dumber than rocks.

typically they're scammers.. in my experience all those who REALLY have trouble spelling or using correct grammar in creating sentences.. are scam artists.. do NOT send money or give out any of your personal info like email or telephone numbers.. if anyone DOES ask OR gives you THEIR yahoo or msn account to 'email them to chat further'.. please report them immediately and they'll be investigated.. if they ARE scammers.. they'll be gone in a blink.. if not.. well.. it's always better to be safe.. than have to cancel all your accounts and credit cards..

It sounds to me like you are just getting scammers from Nigeria or other places that are posing as Americans.
