Well you really can't say Sandy didn't make the president look good. It could have been the deciding factor in some undecided voters. Smear campaigns are common place on both sides.

In the time of kings, only the fool could hold a monarch's feet to the fire. It is no different today, of course it's sad that our news organizations have chosen sides instead of stating the facts, which makes the "fake news" more accurate than the real stuff.

If President Obama would give them more fodder, like dimwit (Bush) used to do, they would be using him to make fun of too. The fodder seems to be ripe and plentiful on the right wing side.
