Topic: M & W Can't be "Just Friends" | |
---|---|
The study results showed that there was a large difference between
how men and women experienced their friendships. They did not agree in the perception of their friendships. Men experienced a sexual attraction in general while the women in the very same relationship did not experience sexual attraction in general. So, the FWB relationship is different. In the FWB friendship both parties decide to have a sexual oomponent to their relationship but decide in advance to try and not let it develop into a romantic relationship because they both perceive each other as not well suited as a long term mate for whatever reason...or at least they talk themselves into believing this in the beginning and the whole thing blows up later when one or both realize that they have been fooling themselves and that romantic feelings are indeed involved.... Anyway for the purpose of the study FWB would not be platonic friendships I suppose... |

I have several platonic male friends. One of my best friends is a guy. We have been friends for ten years. We even lived together for a short time. But our relationship has always been totally platonic. We have both discussed the more issue. But we both agree we that are better off just being friends.

Translation: He probably wants it to be sexual according to the research and you are perfectly happy with it being platonic and he just says he's ok with it but secretly ...you know... |

So to summarize:
Men, being the kind hearted emotional creatures that they are, naturally feel affection for their female friends. Women, being the cold heartless wenches that they are, feel nothing, even in the face of kindness and friendship. This is normal? Is that about it? |

I am a cold heartless wench that feels nothing. |

It seems men and women will never agree 100% on anything.
Perhaps we should we should just stay in our own corners |

I just find it childish that a grown man can't be friends with a woman and not think of having sex with her. My friends don't see me in that way and just laugh at the thought of it as to them I am just one of the boys. |

I dunno if this p.c but I'm a firm believer in guys and gals only real difference is we have outies they have innies. After that we are all people and all different.
Also this study didn't take into the account how attractive each person was. Because A good looking guy or gal is always more likely to be lusted after. Hence why sex sells products so well. |

First of all, the feelings of college students are not necessarily representative of the whole spectrum of people. Second, what is the point of this study exactly, to discourage intersex friendships?
I tend to have better friendships with men than with women, as I seem to have more in common with them intellectually. It's rare for me to find a woman who is intellectually oriented rather than emotionally oriented. Of course the remote possibility that a male friend might eventually feel some actual desire for me is a welcome spice, but all it's ever turned out to be is wishful thinking so I've learned to just ignore it. |

I agree with your statement about attraction as I am sure looks might play into it. This is why I don't have to worry about guys thinking out me sexually as there is no way they would be attracted to me which is probably why we have such good friendships. |

Well, I have lots of male friends and that is what they are. They are more like brothers to me than anything else and me being a Tomboy; we get along great. So, if you are mature enough; you can be just friends with the opposite sex. Try asking one of them if they'd have sex with you. They all said yes. I lose on this one. |
