It's all pretty much the same, someone hurts no matter who it is.

But it's like if someone here died, if it was someone who posted all the time, more people would react to it as they would feel more of a connection with the person and so would keep checking to see what was happening in the post.

Its the same on the news, if something is brought to our attention and people relate or are moved by it more people notice. It doesnt make the person any more or less important.

One of my boys is in the Army while another works on boats, it wouldnt matter how either died it would still be a huge shock, as although I know and see the danger, it really isnt something that you think will happen.

I guess the value of life is all in one's perspective. Although I would place no value on my life; I would place a very high value on my best friend's life. To me; his death would be devastating and of course to his family being his wife/son/daughters as he has responsibilities to all of them. Me; I am responsible to no one; therefore my life isn't that valuable. I am not saying this to be negative but I am looking it at a logical perspective. I am throwing at this point all emotions out the window and trying to be practical.

"One death is a tragedy; a million is a statistic" - Joseph Stalin

Or, more precisely quoted, "Killing ten men is murder. Killing thirty million is a statistic." - J.S.

Is all life valuable? I think it is. Everyone's life is valuable, but the values and the corresponding price can be different from person to person.

Very luckily for us, forum users, the American society has not generalized this thought enough yet to affect our justice system. Murder is still murder, thank heavens.

Although OJS was guilty, and he can't deny it. <<- written for comic effect, not as a charge of fact; an opinion of comic nature.

The people going to watch that movie, can't have known they were risking their lives. They certainly weren't expecting the guns. They just expected it to be just another ordinary day at the cinema. Except this was a movie premiere. Who could have expected to be shot at, when this was meant to be a civilized event? The only person expecting it would be the guy who took his shots at random people. What a horrific news story that was.

As someone who lost her entire family (husband and both sons) I definitely view everyones' life as valuable and important etc...It's so easy to take people "for granted" and assume that they will live for a long time...My son's cat died unexpectedly last week and it "tore me up."..Nobody can be "replaced." We can't go to the store and buy a "clone" of a loved one who died...Every time we "lose" someone we love (or even a beloved pet) it seems like a part of us "dies-off" too..I feel like I am walking around with a lot of "missing pieces" and "missing parts" since everyone died...But I still have to "go on" (anyway) and find some "value" in still being alive. (On my "own.")

the only 'joy' I can wrap my head around having when someones life here ends, is the joy that they have moved on to someplace better,,,

I just wonder if and why people rank the importance of others lives?

it seems, our culture especially reveres some lost lives more than others and Im just curious as to why?

how many were killed in a theater watching a movie ? did they go there with a reasonable belief that they were risking their lives?

how many go into the line of duty and get killed? do they go in with a reasonable belief they are risking their lives?

how do we decide whose death should cause uproar and whose death is just all in a days news?

dont all those people who die untimely deaths(Whether in a theater or a consulate) have people who will love and miss them?

It is all about Media, and who they think is Most important, to sell to the News.
