Witchcraft is very much a religion. it's the first religion long before any of the modern popular religions.

Hello! I'm a Witch. While it is true that Witchcraft isn't ALWAYS practiced as a religion, it CAN be one. For example, I consider it my religion because I have certain deities that I serve, worship and honor as well as general guidelines to follow. However, if someone else only practiced the craft simply for the magickal aspects of it with no deity connections, then it would not be considered a religion; merely a practice.

Actually that makes you a Pagan witch. Paganism being your religion. |

Actually. Technically speaking, Witchcraft isn't a religion. Its a word that was given to practices within the Pagan faith. In the sense of the word, Witchcraft encompasses "Potion making" which were often times simple herbal remedies for illnesses or other discomforts, Rituals, which is the Wiccan equivalent to praying, and other things. But, to say Witchcraft isn't a religion in the context that some people are implying is, quite frankly, Idiotic and naive. A lot, and I mean a lot, of practices in the Christian beliefs were derived from other religions such as Wicca, Pagan, Norse, and so on, so forth. In fact, the "Christmas Tree" Actually came from Pagan beliefs. Many Christian practices evolved from Pagan practices. But none of them came from Wicca since Wicca was only started in the 1950's. |
