As for crazy scientific hypotheses, yes, that whole bit I posted earlier about Saturn has to be one of the nuttiest ones I've heard in a while. Immanuel Velikovsky was a flake.

any way this topic is better for the religious threads so back to the original topic, what crazy theories do you have?
a Scientific Theory can not be crazy,or it wouldn't be a SCIENTIFIC Theory!

LOL... that's the same link I posted a couple posts before you. We're on the same page.

'Theory'... I do not think that word means what you think it means.

This quotation from the linked article sums it up:

When used in non-scientific context, the word “theory” implies that something is unproven or speculative. As used in science, however, a theory is an explanation or model based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning, especially one that has been tested and confirmed as a general principle helping to explain and predict natural phenomena.

In science, the word hypothesis is used for something that is unproven or speculative, while theory is reserved for models that have been tested and confirmed, meaning they are no longer speculative. Relativity, gravitation, quantum mechanics, evolution... all of these are confirmed, and all are examples of scientific theories.

Also, and no disrespect intended, the bible has nothing to do with science.

ok i be wrong about the theory thing. but the Holy Bible is a scientific book, just have a look at Job chapter 38 and 39, there is about 30 questions that are scientific there and God answers them.

no, the bible is more of a fairy tale than anything else... there is very little in the bible that can be proven either way with science...

Just curious to hear what some of the craziest scientific theories that people in here have heard of before are.

One of mine would be that out of billions and billions of possible dimensions, universes and planets is that ours is the only one with the ability to sustain life. Possibly just the luck of the draw.

Apparently, you don't don't know the difference between a scientific theory and pure speculation. A theory isn't a theory unless it is testable.

Possible dimensions and universes? Is there a way to test that belief of yours?

seems like all theories would start with speculation... then devise a way to try to test it... at what point would it become a theory?

Well, The Saturn Myth would have to be pretty high on the list.

Basically, this hypothesis states that within the timeframe during which mankind has inhabited the Earth, our world along with Mars, Venus and Saturn once occupied very different orbits from what they do today, being sort of locked together in relation to one another such that Saturn, Mars and Venus all appeared fixed over the North Pole as concentric circles. The idea is that this configuration and the chaos that resulted as it broke apart and the planets found their way to their current orbits forms the basis for nearly all facets of human myth and legend, including most of the major events in the Old Testament and a slew of other mythological occurrences detailed in religions hailing from places as disparate as ancient Egypt and the islands of Polynesia.

almost as bad as the creationists theory...

but here is a good article that shows how gas giants form and why the Saturn myth is just that...

think about this....

humans have the same organs and organ "set up" as pigs.does that mean we have also evolved from pigs?

what humans have done over the years is adapted, not evolved!

all mammals have the same basic internal organs, it just means our DNA is about 70 the same with other mammals. adaption is a part of evolution, if you don't adapt, you won't evolve... after the dino's died off, there were small furry mammals that survived, along with some water mammals... all mammals evolved from them...
