I don't really like gyms. Although I should probably go. I prefer getting my exercise by doing outdoor activities in the Fall, Spring and Winter. I used to swim laps in the Summer but they closed down the lap pool that was close enough to my office to go at lunch. frown

I used to go 5 days a week..then I blew out my thumb.

Do you know how many machines you cannot use when you
can't put pressure on your thumb?

How many?

hahaha
43 at a Gold's Gym :-)

And shaune, it is not a matter of pain, it is
a matter of weakness, the thumb holds
nothing so I am always in jeopardy of
something heavy falling on me.

I'm in the gym 3 days a week. In the dojo 4-5 nights/week except for holidays and whatnot.

I don't go to the gymn either. Not worth the time or money for me. I have my own mini-gymn in the basement and it works just fine.

Try to find a small gym. Mine is inside the Fitness Institute. They normally work with obese people, but they have all the equipment you would find in a decent gym-racks of free weights and just about every machine you could want, plus a nice sized open area for cardio and stuff like that.

I would do this if I had space and money for my dream home gym! drinker

It's not the size that bothers me. I don't like the whole "working out" thing. I'd rather get my exercise while enjoying myself.

Well; the costs were low as first I bought stuff on sale and second just bought it bit by bit. My gymn is in a small space of 8 x 10. I suppose I could expand it as I have a whole basement but I find that spot works perfectly well. My gymn consists of a workout bench, free weights, a stationary bike, a boxing bag, and the total gymn. All these bought at Canadian Tire and Walmart. Cost was about $550.00 after taxes so much cheaper than a gymn membership which costs about $300.00 yearly. Been using the equipment since 2006; so got my money's worth already.

Working out certainly does not need to involve going to the gym.
Some of my favorite activities over the years involve soccer,
tennis, jogging stairs, jump rope, TRX, biking, push ups, pull ups,
sit ups, burpees, skiing, stretching, swimming....

One can get a great daily dose of exercise using only body weight
exercises.

I just add water for my daily exercise. I swim laps and do water aerobics. :)

Water exercise is great! When my pain is really bad, I know at least I can still swim or do water aerobics.

Yep, Slowhand, exercising outdoors is wonderful. Walking on the beach is a really good workout if you walk in the soft sand. Great leg workout. And, swimming in the ocean is much more fun than swimming in a pool.

I like exercising outdoors and I also like going to the gym.
They both have their own advantages. There is great precision
in the gym, convenience and a certain comraderie. I even like
the AMT-type elliptical machine because of its range of motion
it is fun to use for a while to music.

I get bored though with stationary bikes and the treadmill
and also get a bit bored with jogging especially on a track.
Same thing with swimming laps. But it is always good to switch
it up.

It is more fun to cover a variety of scenery and different
locations and terrain with a real bike ride for me. I love
the beach and ocean and have lived within walking distance
but not at the moment.

Switching it up is good. However, I am not one of those people who likes exercise for its own sake. ohwell

Only some like the exercise just for the exercise...
I am one of them although I only get an hour or two a day.

Makes me feel good physically and relaxes me mentally
and that is why I enjoy it.

It is nice to hike, jog, bike or swim with friends for
companionship too. Then it definitely does not have to
be merely for the workout itself.
