Simple question with far reaching ramifications. Do we own our own bodies, our health, our lives? Or does the government?

But then again, I'm a paranoid schizophrenic, so I'm looked badly upon anyway, so what the hell do I know? I just think they are watching our every move.

they presume they do!

The authority of government... can have no pure right
over my person and my property but what I concede to
it.
— Henry David Thoreau

seems many have forgotten that,or just don't care!

I own my body (my choice what to do with it)
I own my health (my choice to look after it)
I own my life (my choice to continue it or end it)

yet all three are influenced and exist alongside millions of others and have elements which must therefore be governed in so far as they affect (Directly or indirectly) others,,,

When you own something that has no rights . . . like a hammer, can you throw it away, can you destroy it, what if someone could use it? What if society did not have enough hammers? What if the productivity of society would be harmed by you throwing away your hammer?

How is any object that can be owned different from another object which can be owned, and how does the effect on others change your authority over ownership?

Really? Let's look at your body. What if you decide to put Meth or crack into it? You go to jail. What if you decide to sell you r body be it sex or organs. Jail again. What if you decide to cut yourself or want to kill yourself and people find out? They put you in a mental facility.

Your health? Pretty sure they are about to make you buy insurance.

Simple answer to a simple question.
What are the ramifications of that fact?

Does ownership mean I can take my own life?
Does it mean I can do risky things with my life?
What does it mean and what does it not mean?

good points, those who wish to use drugs or prostitute themself dont completely own their bodies

being I dont wish to do either, I feel complete ownership of mine,,,

as far as behavior. that is something that affects others, so if I start behaving dangerously, even if the danger is caused to myself, I Expect someone to put me where I can do no further damage to myself or others,,,

buying insurance doesnt put me in any less ownership of my 'health'...

it protects others from having to be responsible for it in those unplanned for unexpected events called 'sickness' or 'injury'

All your saying here is that you don't care about a lack of ownership because it doesn't effect your decisions . . . yet.

nope, IM saying I dont care about not having the 'right' to poison my body with a few things,, there are plenty of other completely legal poisons,, like alcohol, tobacco,,,,etc,,,,if its my choice to use them,,,

Prostitution isn't poison. I mean it's really no worse medically then sleeping around with a lot of people. What about gambling? Don't I own my money? Shouldn't I be able to gamble if I wish? It's my body and if I wished to not insure it medically that should be my decision.

IVe got no worries in this area,, sounds like you dont feel like you own yours

prostitution isnt illegal everywhere, thats a state issue,, find a state where its legal and go for it

gambling , likewise, there are all types of places in Nevada to gamble

giving the powers not entrusted to congress to the states,,,,doesnt seem to truly make people any happier does it?

I feel in complete ownership of my own though

Right, you are confirming that because this does not effect you, you don't care.

Your caring does not change the fact that you cannot do as you please with your body.

msharmony your cognitive dissonance is showing, might want to tuck that in a bit.
