My dear friend who was going to donate a kidney failed the health exams. Nothing serious but you have to pass 100% to donate.
I will continue just surviving and getting ready for a life until I receive a kidney. She still has my undying gratitude for trying as well... |

Awwwww, I assume you are on waiting lists?

DUDE, YOU NEED TO SIGN YOURSELF UP FOR STEM CELL THERAPY RESEARCH! A child had his TRACHEA replaced with one made from his stem cells VERY RECENTLY. His recovery has been nothing but spectacular. Right now there has been a LOT OF focus on rendering stem cells from a skin plug, culturing them and injecting them directly into affected organs and surprisingly the organs become functional again. They are also perfecting growing hearts and lungs as well. Depending on your condition the answer may lie in experimental and alternative measures. The fact is the Anti Rejection therapy associated with organ transplant may very well kill you just the same like Chemo.
I STRONGLY Recommend you look into this avenue! |

I'll just be on chemo but that is bad enough. I did do a little research on stem cell kidney replacement and right now they are working on getting you off immune system repression drugs is all. I'll dig some more into it. Awwwww, I assume you are on waiting lists? Yes I am on a couple of lists. I should still get a kidney around summer of 2013 hopefully. I just won't have the convenience of scheduling it around school and will have to drop everything and run when they call. ((((Hippie))0 Sorry to hear you lost out on the kidney ,but sounds like you have one heck of a good friend. Yes, they are very giving people. Thank you everybody else! |

Sorry OldHippie was hoping this would be your shot rather than having to wait but will keep praying that you get on the list ASAP. Every so often I talk at various places about donation; so many people realy don't know basics and I can usually get at least a few to sign up. If when you sign up for your classes you coordinate through Special Student Services you can get dispensation to suspend or work independently to finish the semester you are in without it affecting your grades or looseing your tuition. You can also get certain student support services to accomodate your lower energy level such as someone to take notes for you and or additional time to take tests do projects if you need rest breaks. . |

You might be able to get fast tracked into stem cell therapy. Like I said there are some clinics experimenting with it on humans now.
Texas has lifted the ban imposed by the FDA. These people are actively engaged in clinical trials and you might qualify for free medical to be used as an experiment (For something that so far has proven to work and is being done in CHINA AND INDIA A LOT NOW!) This organization is American. http://www.americastemcell.com/ Information resources... http://www.diabetes.org/advocate/our-priorities/funding/stem-cell-research.html |

Will keep you in my prayers Hippie that a new donor will be found soon...It sure is nice to have friends like that... When I lost my husband in 2007, one friend called every evening for over a month just to make sure I was ok...that's what friends are about!
