I wish more people would look into what it really means to provide proper care for an animal before they get one. Ditto regarding children. |

Depends, I say cats, because they can live without you. They're secure and stick around because they want to. ...and the'll move out if they want to my sister's cat changed owners like that. I prefer cats because they have their own will and they are not as dependent on humans as a dog...If I don't feel like playing with my cat (Napoleon) I don't have to, he can entertain himself very well and he goes and comes as he pleases...I would have to take a dog for a walk regularly though. If I was blind I would prefer a dog...a cat wouldn't lead me anywhere if it didn't want to |

For me its both. I have two dogs and a cat. They are all special in their own way ,and boy do they know it!!

I prefer cats. We have dogs and they are a lot of work.

Both cats and dogs make good companions, I am equal to both.

dogs are the best, especially therapy dogs. Ever hear of a therapy cat? Absolutely they exist. Many nursing Homes have them living right in the facility for that very reason. I love dogs too, but never dismiss the role a cat can play in someones life. They are fantistic!! |

Tough choice.
I love both my cats (Sox and Nixon) but I have to say my black lab (Trot) is my favorite. There's just something about the way he goes ballistic when I walk in the door that makes my heart skip a beat. The cats just look at me like "yup, there she is again". My dog is not only my best friend, he's the love of my life and I can't imagine being without him! |

Depends, I say cats, because they can live without you. They're secure and stick around because they want to. Dogs are very insecure and needy, they depend on you and need you. They're fun and loving, but they stick around because they need to. IDK, just depends on the type of companionship you prefer. Not that one is better than the other. I guess you're talking about outdoor cats? Indoor cats depend on you just as much as dogs do. I have cats, but I like dogs as well. |

I really don't know that much about dogs. I've never have a dog of my own...I've become attached to some of my friends' dogs at times. But I guess I'm just more familiar and "at home" with cats since I've had cats as pets since I was small...Right now I have 4 cats. Two of the cats belong to my son. (He's in a hospital setting right now.) And I have two "brother" cats of my own that just turned 15 in April..My son's cats are probably 13 and 14 or so. (Not exactly sure.)...My son's cats are both girls. They've known me as "grandma" for a long time. (When I used to visit my son at his house.)...Now I'm "mom" to all 4 cats. (And the only one here.) I'm outnumbered!...The cats think I'm just on earth to "do" for them! Every so often I have to remind them that I "count" and "matter" too!...They are my family and I'd probably be in "bad shape" without them! So I don't get too too upset when they "run me ragged" at times.

They definitely do sense something. They do comfort and provide companionship. My cat can sense when I'm feeling good or not and will often be more affectionate when I'm down, then when he realizes I'm feeling better he'll move on to do his own thing. lol

totage..Great that your cat is so attuned to you and your moods. And so comforting and caring when you're down..My cats and my son's cats are still adjusting and adapting to each other..One of my cats ("Little T") keeps his eyes on me a lot and tries to comfort me or make me smile etc...He's the most sensitive of all the cats and has always been this way...When the phone rings sometimes he rushes over and "meows." He's trying to tell me that he'd like to have a chance to talk to my son on the phone too. My son served as his "uncle" and they've always been very close.
