My daughter is 14 and I suggested she go on the pill, not because she is sexually active, but because this year she had a 3 week camping hiking trip through the bush and didnt need her periods smack in the middle of it.

Then she has a trip to indonesia to work in an orphanage for a few weeks and its the same thing.

But if she had asked me for them, I wouldnt have a problem, I have 4 boys and 2 girls, and would much rather them happily talk to me about what they need then hide it and end up in trouble.

Paraphrase Trust my wife and her Mom and Doctor handle it...

This is really disheartening for me to read because a Father or Father figure even respected male figure bailing on being part of training young people, especially young women about responsible sexuality and health decision making is CRITICAL.

A man telling a young women how men think, feel, act, and react to the results of premature sexual activity can as ole Judge Joe brown says, hope I get it right "Support Manhood and Protect Womenhood".

Nothing cooled my jets as much as a hotblooded teenager as a couple of conversations I had with men friends that told me that " my fine little behind might make even their teeth sweat but getting laid was not worth looseing their freedom and ruining my life or friendship with them and they sure hoped I would take that into account when the little head started talking for the big head in the boys that were chaseing around me." Being told as a young woman that you are valued as more than a sex object by a man figures hugely into a Young woman's self esteem. And it is not just a Mom or even a Dad that needs to say it.

At no time does a young woman need her father actively involved in her guidance as when she is learning to relate to men.

Life is for learning and it grieves me when men abdicate their roles as mentors. But much of it is they just dont know what to do themselves, because they have not been taught well or at all. But I hear ya PacificStar.
