DALLAS - It's a sad case of neglect. Four children and seven dogs were removed from a home in southeast Oak Cliff.

Dallas police say the children were living in filth and can't tell police when they had last eaten.

The mother agreed the children are living in bad conditions, but said she is disabled and has no help. Rene Dominguez showed us around her house, including the bedroom where her children slept. Clothes, toys and other items could be seen piled on the floors, leaving little room to step in a clear area.

The children, ages 7,9, 11 and 13, were taken out of the house. Officers say they had flea bites on them.

Dominguez disputes the claim that her children were not eating well.

“I put food on the table," she said. "I feed the kids; the kids aren't malnourished."

School officials became concerned when the children didn't show up for summer school. Dominguez said they were sick, with two of them throwing up blood.

"If they can't even keep their heads up, what's the point of me taking them to school?" she said.

Dominguez said she is disabled and unable to work. Her husband was deported to Honduras, leaving her and the children behind. She said she lives on $900 a month in disability and welfare checks.

"I know this is not the way these kids are supposed to be living, but I can't get in there to clean it," she said.

She said officials are overreacting to the situation and said she wants her kids back.

"The only thing that helps you get by is your kids and they come and take them from you," she said. "When you do the best you can and you tell the school and tell everybody that is supposed to help you but they don't help you."

The children have been taken into CPS custody. Dallas police are deciding on whether they will file criminal charges.

The dogs were taken by animal control. Authorities said they were malnourished.

This will all be taken care of when her welfare runs out. In America you have two years to collect, up to five, then bang, no more free money, ever again.

The kids will be sold to Chinese restaurants, and the one that can run by then, will run away, and become prostitutes and drug dealers. Some will even become senators.

I don't think we should be outraged at the mom. You try to keep the blood spittle down inside the kids' throats, for $900 a month, and then make judgment.

I think the entire USA is f-d. Their values of compassion and community has been completely destroyed by gun violence, rampant drug use, and by self-serving greed.

The recent display of huge resistence to public and universal healthcare to all in AMY made it clear that you guys could not give a flying f about your next door neighbours if they rotted to death in front of your house on the pavement. Yours is a country which is singularly cruel to the disadvantaged. I see why, too -- too much greed, "spirit of independence" and bullying is happening down there.

She already recieves disability, medicare and foodstamps.
No excuse for the kids to go hungry unless, she's a nutcase or druggie.

She wasn't abusing them, she's neglecting them and I don't think she should face legal charges for that without more details on her situation.

I'd like to know more about him being 'deployed' as she puts it.

Best thing the state could do is find out what exactly she needs and get the family back together - minus the dogs.

Addedly, the woman should be charged with numerous Immigration laws she broke. Haboring, aiding, abeting, housing, transporting. Just a few federal laws.

I would say that her best option is to go to Honduras to be with her husband. $900.00 would buy a lot of bus tickets or air fare.
