I sent my son today off onto his first mission trip to Kentucky. Our church had a blessing for the 8 people who are going and my son was picked for our church's youth representative. I cried today in church. It wasn't sad tears but happy tears because I had never been able to go but I am able to send my son. They are going to Henderson Settlement in Kentucky to help those who need help with their homes. I am so proud of my son.

Although you weren't able to go on a mission trip yourself, it sounds like your determination to be a good parent, to set a strong example of service in action, and help make your son's experience possible WAS your mission! In that case ~ Congrats ~ mission accomplished. Kudos to you and your son for giving back...

Kater bless u and ur son for serving. Great great way to spend his time and a wonderful way to learn/expand on compassion.
This is one thing we should all love to hear about, people serving the less fortunate.. My daughter went to Mexicali this year with 700 other h.s. and college students and parents/helpers etc.. to build houses and rebuild a church. Our church goes all over the world, they went to Czech, China, Kenya, and one other country I cant recall right now, all through out this month (grrr@recalling specific dates).. I am sure many other churchs do the same.. We just dont know or hear of there work.. GREAT things happen that arent made known, we mostly hear bout the bad. Great post! Thank you. |

Thank you all, Our church use to do the Appalachian Service Project down south. They went every year and they use to go back to this one old lady's house just to say hi. They did her house the first year and never missed a time to go back and see her.

In college on two occasions I had the privilege of going to a Catholic worker farm in West Virginia to help out with springtime chores over break. It's a rewarding experience and filled with great memories of camaraderie and purpose. Your son will look back fondly on this time.

thank you both of you. Now i'm waiting in Indiana while he's in Kentucky wondering how he's doing. I better get a call by tomorrow(their break day) from him and let me know how he's doing.....lol. He's going to come back home realizing how much we have compared to some of those they saw this week. He thought we didn't have much until this week when I know his mind WILL change.
