Do you think depression causes one to be overly sensitive, or over sensitivity causes depression?

Do you think depression causes one to be overly sensitive, or over sensitivity causes depression? well,, I think psychology causes 'depression',,,personally but the 'diagnosis' is probably much more common amongst the normally overly sensitive than the normally jovial and optimistic |

Genetics plays a small role, but environment is a bigger influence. But, those who have depression, are they overly sensitive due to the depression, or are they depressed due to the over sensitivity? |

I have no idea.
but at a guess I would probably say that it's a mixture of being sensitive and not being able to see the good in things which could be because of depression. so my guess would be either one. |

I think the depression causes over sensitivity, at least with me it seems. I notice when I go through cycles, I will be more sensitive when it's high, then when it's low.
I was curious if others seem to notice this or not. |

I think chains of events cause the depression. Depression then amplifies over sensitivity, making it difficult to get a true picture of whats going on, because you try so hard to stay ahead of the game and begin to over analyze everything. Truly the gift that keeps on giving.

i believe over sensitivity causes depression.
since i have ridiculous highs and lows i notice that when i'm on a high the stupid little things that i know would make me feel absolutely miserable are just that: stupid. when i'm on a low though, ooooof. EVERYTHING makes me feel like ****. no matter which side i'm on though, certain things definitely trigger me. i guess this is the result of my environment and whatnot. i'm just aware that little things that most people would just brush off have a wayyy bigger impact on me for some reason. grow a pair, YOU P*SSY! |

Well I don't let myself get depressed! I always find something to take my mind off of things..... (SEX) or (HIKING) or the (GYM) or mowing a lawn or reading there's always something POSITIVE!!!

Well maybe the word being active or constructive helps?

I have major depression due to a chemical imbalance in my brain.
And I'm not the sensitive type. So much for that theory. |

Do you think depression causes one to be overly sensitive, or over sensitivity causes depression? I think it each affects us differently. I can over analyze at times and it causes the inevitable spiral downslide...until i get fed up with myself and feel the need to move again I keep coming back to balance...oooo...does that make me a Ninja Libran? |

I am jovial, optimistic, (social feedback on my personality as I appear), oversensitive (personally give diagnosis by psychiatrist) depressive (have seven suicide attempts behind me in my twenties), and I am very, but VERY psychological. I don't know who can do and what with this, but there you have it, MsHarmony. |

I am about to study psychology, what fun. People who havent had depression really just dont understand. Oversensitivity definitly factors in my case. But I really like who i am and i wouldnt change me for the world.

I really like who i am and i wouldnt change me for the world. That's what I call a lucky good arrangement. And your plan for the future sounds solid, it also shows excellent judgment. (The plan being not changing yourself for the world.) |

Medically speaking... yes.
Depression is a chemical imbalance. It takes over in ways that surprise loved ones to no end. It affects people in many ways and no two seem to be alike. |
