WARNING: PROFANE LANGUAGE ON LINKED AUDIO RECORDINGS AND TRANSCRIPTS.

Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas says he and his family were house guests of Mel Gibson in Costa Rica last December when the 'Mad Max' star went off on a blistering tirade, recorded on an iPhone by Eszterhas ' 15-year-old son Nick.

Eszterhas provided the audio recording to industry website The Wrap because: “Gibson called me a liar. And I also have some reason to believe he’s creating a PR blitz questioning my truthfulness.”

Eszterhas, who wrote the blockbuster "Basic Instinct," was writing a screenplay for Gibson for a film called "The Maccabees." The fact that the screenplay had not been completed seems to be one of the things that set Gibson off.

“Why don’t I have a first draft of 'The Maccabees'? What the f**k have you been doing?” he can be heard bellowing on the recording on The Wrap's website.

And it gets worse. Gibson, 56, also screams about Oksana Grigorieva, his ex-girlfriend and mother of his young daughter.

“I am earning money for a filthy little c**ksucker who takes advantage of me!” Gibson rants.

PHOTOS: Gibson and Grigorieva in happier times.

Gibson and Eszterhas and have been involved in a heated back and forth over the past weeks, during which Eszterhas accused Gibson of making anti-Semitic remarks and threatening Grigorieva.

Eszterhas wrote a scathing, nine-page letter to Gibson in which he accused the actor of “hating Jews” and using “The Maccabees” film project – a story about Jewish heroism -- “in an attempt to deflect continuing charges of anti-Semitism which have dogged you, charges which have crippled your career.”

“I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason you won’t make ‘The Maccabees’ is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews,” Eszterhas wrote.

“The Maccabees” project was put on hold by Warner Bros. studio, in part due to Eszterhas’ script, The Wrap reported.

Gibson has called several of Eszterhas' assertions "fabrications,” and may sue the writer. The actor is looking into whether Costa Rican laws were violated when he was secretly taped in his home, and if his privacy was violated by the release of the audio, TMZ reports.

Gibson should have a good grasp on the legalities regarding leaked recordings, as several violent and crude phone messages he left for his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva were released in 2010 and used against him in their custody battle over their infant daughter.

Eszterhaus says regardless of how his son’s recording relates to “The Macabees” film project, it shows Gibson is in bad shape, and possibly dangerous.

“The bottom line is it shows to me he badly needs help,” Eszterhas told TheWrap. “My interest isn’t to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others.... I strongly believe that unless he seeks and receives some kind of psychiatric help, someone is going to get hurt.”

Gibson has a long history making racist and anti-Semitic remarks. After a DUI arrest, Gibson exploded that “Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” In a voice mail to Grigorieva he said she would be to blame if she were to be “raped by a pack of n**gers.” Grigorieva was granted a restraining order during their custody battle over daughter Lucia.

So what we have is a guy yelling at his high paid employee who produced crappy work and the same guy complaining that some tramp used him and played with his heart in order to get rich. I honestly don't see the problem here. He was upset and he was vocal about it.

After listening to some of his rants, I don't feel bad for him at all... more like disgusted. I do think he needs some help, though.

understandable,,,

Im empathetic because I have heard him speak on occasions other than rants or under the influence and I have the impression that he is a deeply sensitive and intellectually brilliant man

it seems such a tragedy that he is stifled with the obvious emotional issues, without them, I wonder how much brilliance he could achieve,,,

I have been in supervisor and management positions for years and no matter how mad an employee has made me I have never even raised my voice or used profanity twoards them.

That's definitely not a professional way of dealing with problems.

Every company I have worked for has had a no tolorance policy for that. I have seen managers get fired for it.

Frankly, there is no need to talk to an employee like that and people who do have no business supervising someone.

Many alcoholics become psychotic when they drink. That means that "In vino veritas" is not necessarily true for Mel Gibson or any other alcoholic. Any crimes that Mel Gibson commits while drunk should obviously be prosecuted, but what he says should be taken with a grain of salt. He has had many friends come forward and defend him, including a Jewish co-worker and Jody Foster. They know the sober Mel Gibson, who is (according to them) loving and kind.

Mel should go into rehab, I don't know why he doesn't. But I (the lover of all things Jewish that I am) don't hold his past rants against him and this taped rant seems perfectly reasonable given the situation.

Pay one of your employees 1 million + and have him do substandard work and see if you raise your voice or cuss at him.

I think it is more then alcoholism. I think there is some mental illness involved.

It's not just rants, he has a history of violence during them. Then there was hoping his ex wife would get raped by a group of Ni$$%rs which honestly disgusted me and I will never watch ANYTHING he is in again.

Nope, I wouldn't. First of all I wouldn't open myself up to a lawsuit like that and second there is no need to treat someone like that.

If your pissed about the quality of the work and you think that they are screwing you, take them to court. The moment you blow your top you lose.

whoa

As I already stated, some alcoholics have chemically induced mental illnesses. When Mel drinks, he literally goes insane.

While we don't agree on much, I absolutely agree with this.
