I have been told that I over-tip, but if the service was great I will give them 20%. If it wasn't that good I double the tip and take a dollar off (maybe around 15%).

Serving the public is one of the most grinding jobs I have ever done even though I was always pretty good at it and made a respectable living doing so which makes tipping a requirement even if the service is not top drawer.

If I am paying for the meal which usually means I am also treating a guest I tip at least 20% or more. Even if it means I cut back on what I order for myself.

If I am treated then it is not unusual for me to tip 80+% of the cost of my meal.

Especially since if I am asked were I like to go I pick a resturant that I frequent enough I know the owners, manager, or at least some of the waitstaff if not the cook. It means I get great service which is really part of why we dine out.

By doing so; that more than once, I have been "cued in" if I have had the misfortune of dateing a member of the Frog Prince Association more than justifys the cost. You would be surprised how many "players" let their ego get the better of them and take their wives and girlfriends (yes plural) to the same place. Since it is very rare for me to play the field that the current "interest" finds out I am long term friends with people doesn't hurt my first inpressions. If a guy doesn't like that I have friends in all circles of life he is not for me anyway.

By tipping welll at my favorite places I have actually been introduced to several very nice people over the years. Someone I am dating now actually was encouraged to come in on my regular gal-pals lunch day. He sent us all (4) petite treats for dessert and had the waiter give me a business card with an email We will see what actually comes of it but local and legit is less frusterateing than some of the BS of long distance scammers.

Server does a great job I tip 33%, 25% otherwise.

If you can't afford to tip, go to McDonalds!

She could probably buy a whole new wardrobe with the hat full she has every night!

I do the standard 20%-25%. But can depend upon the service.

..i tip according to how i feel, won't less the masses or the thought of etiquette dictate how much that should be or that which is customary after all it is a gratuity..so in other words if ya get one from me you should feel lucky,i've worked harder jobs for less pay..let's all pass the hat for old tombs here

..straight up and honest if nothing else, don't really like the feelin' that a tip should be expected after all it's not up to me to supplement one's income because they work for a penny pinchin' jerk of a boss that can't see his way to paying a decent wage..how's that for an opinion... ..let the stone throwing commence  <--- dodge mode engaged

In australia we don't tip.

But while we where in America we found it fun, every person who did things for us was so friendly and helpful, we did around 30%.
We did go out a couple of times with other people who seemed really demanding, so then my children out of embarrassment would throw in extra to make up for them having to run around after us.
We tried to get the same people each time, just because they where nice.

If the service was good 15%, if it was fair 10% I tip the person who bags my groceries or stuff from like "Target" a dollar, if they do a good job 2 dollars. The girl who cuts my hair 20% and the girl who gives me a massage, 10 dollars.

You're not a repeat customer at any place, are you?

I understand that some feel this way. But, I don't understand going to a restaurant knowing how things work and not tipping a great server just because you don't like the practice of tipping.

Humm ya know I started off waiting tables at 14 and learned a lot from the people I waited on... I can and will say I was a excellent waitress never had a complaint in over 20 years of when I was a Bartender or a waitress...

Some people no matter what you do for them they will not be happy and will tip very little...Still did not make me take it out on them I appreciated all that I got... Sure there were some I regretted waiting on knowing if you were lucky you would get a dollar out of them...

Ya know the way I see it if a person can not afford to tip then get take out....from the restaurant instead. That way you can get the food and don't have to tip...Let the waitress at least have a chance of someone sitting at her table that will tip...

well it depends on who's serving and if food was good or not and what mood i am in lolllll but i always give a good tip i remember i really liked this gal that served cause she was so sweet to me and always ran over to serve me and in past the beer was like 3 dollars a bottle i gave her 5 and said its ok you have a great day:) but then again i don't want her to think i giving that every time so some times i just give a loonie on 3 dollar beer ,On food i gave up to 35 percent in past but they were fantastic and really friendly and food was amazing:)flowerforyou
