The Albuquerque Police said they arrested an illegal alien on charges of sexual assault and murdering his girlfriend’s one-month-old baby girl. Authorities found the baby in a pool of her own blood with visible vaginal and anal tears along with two black eyes.

The suspect, Juan Galindo’s criminal record includes drug and alcohol abuse as well as assaulting another child. Galindo was charged over the weekend with aggravated criminal sexual penetration and child abuse resulting in death- his bail was set at $1 million.

“It's extremely hard on the detectives and everybody who, the initial deputies who attempted to do CPR on the baby, the family members who attempted to do CPR on the baby,” Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Lt. Justin Dunlap said. “It's extremely difficult.”

The Medical Examiner performed a preliminary autopsy on the dead baby and discovered she suffered previous rib fractures and brain bleed injuries.

Officials also said that Galindo used numerous aliases and birth dates while residing illegally in New Mexico and was deported in August of last year.



According to detectives, this wasn’t the first time Galindo had problems with the law.

“He has been arrested for a case involving child abuse before in Texas, I believe in 1993, for [some sort] of DWI related incident,” Lt. Dunlap concluded.

Galindo has at least six kids with a variety of women.

Obama has sued the states who are taking their own action to halt the illegal alien problem. By doing so he has allowed cheeps like this to enter the country and taken steps to prevent their capture.

Houston a hub for transporting illegal immigrants
Van tours called front for 'coyotes'

He went by Felipe Telles, and he had the credentials of a legitimate entrepreneur in the transportation business.

He got a Texas driver's license, bought commercial property, took out loans and registered to vote. He acquired some vans and began shuttling Spanish-speaking immigrants across the country, registering the corporation with the state under the name Flash Van Tours Inc.

But federal charges recently filed in Rhode Island allege the Houston businessman is a convicted human smuggler who has changed his name and is in the country illegally. His company, like others, has come under investigation for its alleged role in transporting illegal immigrants after they have been smuggled across the border.

About 50 small van companies have opened operations across Houston in recent years, each offering their Spanish-speaking clientele a fleet of vans with daily departures to points all over the country. Yet while the companies operate in the open in Houston -- most advertise in Spanish-language papers, many have offices and a few list themselves in the Yellow Pages -- their operations have come under increased scrutiny in other parts of the country.

Van, or camioneta, companies also operate out of other cities, such as El Paso. But because of its size, proximity to the border and central access to the rest of the country, Houston has become a key center for the small transportation companies. Besides destinations in major cities, the vans take the undocumented workers to eastern regions in need of field and meat processing plant laborers -- Tennessee, the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia.

"Houston is a hub for this sort of activity," said Luisa Aquino, local spokeswoman for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.

The local INS office investigated and prosecuted employees of one local van company in 1998, but more recent prosecutions have taken place in other parts of the country. Aquino said INS officers in Houston have become so focused on terrorism that they no longer have time to go after the van companies.

"We don't have anything going on right now," she said. "A lot of that is a result of 9/11, which brought a shift in priorities."

Besides the Rhode Island investigation of Flash Van Tours, government attorneys in San Francisco are pursuing charges against the employees of another Houston company, Olvera Van Tours. Both the Flash and Olvera cases involve allegations that undocumented immigrants were kidnapped after they were unable to pay sufficient money for their transportation.

The government has offered evidence in the Flash case linking the van company to "coyotes" who smuggle immigrants from Mexico. The smugglers brought the immigrants across the Rio Grande, and then the van operated by Flash carried them to Rhode Island, according to evidence used to convict two Flash Van Tours drivers of transporting illegal aliens. Jose Olvera, the Houston man who owns Olvera Van Tours, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in January to charges of operating a commercial enterprise with the intent of evading immigration laws.

In Rhode Island, Telles has been indicted on charges of re-entering the country illegally. Prosecutors say he was deported in 1984 after being convicted under a different name of transporting illegal immigrants.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail at a court hearing last month. A trial date has not been set.

Perhaps the biggest investigation to date was in 1997, when INS authorities in Virginia went after North Van Tours of Houston. Two employees were prosecuted, effectively shutting down an operation that authorities said generated $4 million annually in illicit revenue.

Some question why the van companies are allowed to operate in Houston while being investigated elsewhere.

"These people work with impunity in Houston," said Steven Nolder, a federal public defender in Columbus, Ohio.

Nolder represented a Houston van driver who was pulled over in Ohio in 2000, charged with transporting illegal aliens and sentenced to a year in jail. (The case is on appeal.) But no one in Houston went after the owner of the company, Diamante Transportation, according to Nolder. He said an investigator he sent to Houston was shocked to see that Diamante and many other van companies had advertisements in a local Spanish-language paper and offices along Harrisburg Boulevard.

"He was aghast at what he saw," Nolder said.

The Ohio case originated after the van was pulled over by state police. The California investigation also originated with local police.

But both the Virginia and Rhode Island cases began with investigations by the INS. Aquino, the local spokeswoman, said she did not know why INS offices in other regions have taken the lead in investigating Houston companies.

According to witness statements in the California court case, when police or immigration authorities stop vans in Texas or Louisiana, the illegal immigrant passengers are held for deportation but the drivers are typically let go after they show proof of U.S. citizenship. Authorities in California and the north of the country are more likely to detain the drivers and prosecute them for transporting illegal immigrants.

Federal law makes it a felony not only to smuggle illegal immigrants into the country, but also to knowingly transport them within the United States after they have crossed the border. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $25,000.
