Whooo Hoooo!

That's a good looking burger!

Eating too many burgers and fries? Your brain might show the effects, if new mouse research holds true in humans. Researchers have discovered that a high-fat diet causes new brain cells to sprout in an area of the brain that seems to regulate eating.

Interestingly, if the researchers stopped new brain-cell growth, mice gained less weight and stayed more active, even while eating their "supersize me" diet.

"We really don’t understand the function of these neurons in the normal brain," study researcher Seth Blackshaw, an associate professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, told LiveScience. "Our data suggests that these neurons may have an important role in regulating feeding."

So how did they stop the new
brain cell growth in the mice?

Duh! By letting the mice eat themselves to death!

Yeah, but how are the new cells gonna help if we die of a heart attack.

Good fat, yes

Perhaps that burger dont quite fit the picture of healthy fat :/

What really "regulates eating?."

The power of your will to chose what you eat does, not some fat cell in the brain.

Of course if you are locked up in a cage and fed only a high fat diet its no wonder something in your brain starts changing. Its changing to adjust to the crappy diet.

The only fats that are bad for your heart are transfats, which are created in factories or laboratories. Animal fats are perfectly healthy.

I would be curious to know if those so-called "scientists" fed the mice transfats or healthy fats. They probably don't know the difference. laugh

Do mice typically eat mammalian fats? No! They are scavengers who eat mostly insects, fruit, nuts and seeds. So these "scientists" fed them a diet they aren't evolved for and it caused unexpected changes? You don't say! laugh

What happens when scientists feed humans food we aren't evolved to eat, like grains? Oh, obesity epidemic, heart disease and diabetes. But that has to be caused by the food our bodies crave and are designed to use, right? laugh

If they wanted to do a study that actually meant something, they would use Chimps, since they eat a diet rich in animal fats.

We could eat the brain cells.
