Ever thought they might not be fearing commitment, but doubting the honesty of the other side's commitment, as commitment has to be mutual? ;)

In my opinion. They either fear to be tied down to one person, or fear to be burned due to past experiences.
Obstacles are just things in the way of your goals. If you spend time worrying about then you will never reach your goals.

Maybe it might be a little to soon? Who wants to settle down. In their prime of life? So much to do, explore. To see whats out there for them.

Could it be that you are expecting a commitment to early in the relationship? Love takes time and a commitment shouldn't be made without a strong foundation.

Ask the ones who fear it. The ones who will sleep with just any piece of ***. Nuff said.

After you have made the commitment the fear starts to make sense. But before that the commitment is just this senseless fear of the unknown.

I don't fear commitment. I fear men who who say they love me two seconds after they meet me and want to marry me. And MANY are NOT scammers. They are just so freaking afraid of being alone or want someone to take care of them. I FEAR not being an equal partner. I FEAR not having my opinions and boundaries respected. And I take COMMITMENT REAL COMMITMENT seriously. To me in the wedding vows, "for better or worse" means "for better OR WORSE" and worse can get pretty damn bad. There is a joke in my family that we are like the mafia, it's more acceptable to kill the person and hide the body than divorce them. When I divorced my husband, it was a MAJOR deal. Not something I took lightly. Not something I ever thought I would do to the degree I had my wedding date tattooed on my ring finger. My ex husband will tell you it takes a good month of ACTUALLY SPENDING DAILY TIME WITH ME to even get just a sense of who I am as person. We married after 2 years of dating and one year of living together. He encourages me though he pays alimony to take my time with anybody. He says he rather pay me alimony forever than see me jump into something and jump right back out and be financially and emotionally screwed. Commitment out of desperation is never a good thing. Honestly, I don't know that I will ever marry again. Monogamy with the right person yes. Taking those vows again and promising forever again, I am a bit jaded after having a relationship that lasted half my life end.
