Obama Decides To Take Super PAC Money After All
Campaign Finance: Reversing his earlier stance, President Obama now says he'll accept money to fund his campaign from so-called super-PACs. Does the president have any principles he won't sacrifice? In 2008 and again in 2010, President Obama took a tough stance on outside financing of political campaigns. In 2008, he inveighed against the pernicious influence of big money in politics and pledged to fund his campaign with federal matching funds. But when he discovered he could raise a lot more on his own, he broke that pledge, raising $750 million. In 2011, Obama was so angry over the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision (which made super-PACs possible) he broke long-standing presidential tradition and publicly castigated the high court justices who attended his State of the Union speech. Yet, late Monday, Obama cleared the way for his aides to begin fundraising for Priorities USA Action, a Democratic super-PAC that supports the president. Once again, for Obama, money trumps principles. Though his supporters have bragged about raising $1 billion to beat the GOP this year, fundraising for a super-PAC that supports Obama has noticeably lagged a competing one that supports GOP candidate Mitt Romney. No doubt expecting criticism for this hypocritical shift, Obama on Monday returned $200,000 in questionable donations from some murky campaign donors, and then awkwardly called for a Constitutional amendment to limit fundraising for federal campaigns. http://news.investors.com/Article/600446/201202071903/obama-takes-super-pac-money-after-all.htm/ |

Friend -- I wrote something for our blog about our decision to support Priorities USA, the Super PAC that can help neutralize the avalanche of special-interest spending to defeat President Obama. Every supporter should read it; it's pasted below. I just want to add something for you specifically about your role in all of this. We decided to do this because we can't afford for the work you're doing in your communities, and the grassroots donations you give to support it, to be destroyed by hundreds of millions of dollars in negative ads. It's a real risk. In 2011, the Super PAC supporting Mitt Romney raised $30 million from fewer than 200 contributors. Ninety-six percent of what they've spent so far, more than $18 million, has been on attack ads. The main engine of Romney's campaign has an average contribution of roughly $150,000. That's why it's up to us -- the grassroots organization -- to win this election where we have the real advantage, and that's on the ground. More than 1.3 million Americans have already donated. Our average donation is $55, and 98 percent are $250 or less. The stakes are too important to play by two different sets of rules. If we fail to act, we concede this election to a small group of powerful people intent on removing the President at any cost. The only reason that Mr. Obama is turning to this tactic.
He got his money before from 'bundlers' that took large donations and 'split' them into donations to 'small' to be 'chased' by the paper trail. i.e. a super-pac in disguise. However those 'bundlers' are not available now. (many of them are under investigation such as Mr. Corizine). The problem with 'hiring' a sneak thief is that they might be also working for themselves (and when they get caught for that YOUR involvement comes out). With his real small donations dropping (most of those are independants and VERY pissed at him the DNC AND the RNC) He must make up the cash diference somewhere. |

he has a HUGE internet base who are sending small contributions, I just dont think it matches the big drops being contributed by Republican supporters
and rather than have his supporters working with such a handicap, they have stepped up to bigger donations as well |

He is short the cash cause the litle rain drops fall elsewhere. Independants are pissed. If you believe that statement re supporters... Perhaps some snake oil might exist on my shelves somewhere... Cure anything for a dollar. |

His opponents in the political arena might be as you state. However the internet social networks work in a very funny way. You get the information you are chasing. If you are a liberal you 'socialise' with liberals, and vice versa for a conservative. When you 'search' you tend to search through the same channels you follow when 'socialising'. I can tell you that independants that donated when he ran the first time are not donating now (by large numbers). Because what he said from the pulpit agrees not with his actions from the seat. Yet because the two parties crashed the markets during their last battle... What he hopes to get from the 'big drops' will also not be what he needs. He no longer has the 'juice' to actually grant 'favors' as he did with Corizine and the Unions... there are way to many people watching. The gold is gone from the market. People bought it up as a 'hedge' against the future. What the politicians are passing around now is the 'bad paper' that they allowed into the system. |

You have two ideologies.. Tax and spend us into oblivion which is Obama.. Or cut taxes and spend us into oblivion which is every Republican, but RP. Change doesn't happen just because some clown reads it off a teleprompter. |
