Topic: federal minimum wage | |
---|---|
good news for everyone making minimum wage. the new increase will take effect this week raising minimum wage to $5.85/hr and will have steady increases over the next two years to top out at $7.25/hr. seems that after a decade of congress refusing to the increase(yet at the same time voting for their own increase)single parents working for minimum wage will climb a little further from the poverty line.

no, they won't.
raising minimum wage raises unemployment...there is a finite amount of money that an employer has to spend on labor. that doesn't change...if he can afford to hire 20 people at $5.00, then he can only hire 10 people at $10.00. if he chooses to place the expenditure somewhere other than his labor budget...then he must raise prices on his final goods or use a cheaper product. this in turn leads to inflation. |

i don't think it will. naturally it will increase the cost of business but the minimum wage here in michigan is already near $7.00/hr and still do a raise next year. it hasn't effected prices or business.

it's economics 101. it WILL be felt...there's no way to prevent it. and the poverty level will just raise...until there's a new equilibrium.

why dont we go shop at stores that only buy imported goods so we can do away with more jobs so some fat cat company can make more money and reward the ceo for great work for making more profit
also lets just shop at stores that have the self checker so we can kill a few more jobs too

there was a MADE IN AMERICA movement about 10 15 years ago and i still know a few people who won't buy anything but MADE IN AMERICA. unfortunately the free trade agreement and convenience seems to have won out.

Can't we all just get along?

if it costs this country ten bucks to make a widget, and twenty to make a gidget...and in country THEM, it costs twenty for a widget, and ten for a gidget...it absolutely makes sense for US and THEM to trade.
whats a widget?
that might explain why so many union jobs have gone to the southern states because of lower wages, and then we out sourse those jobs to mexico and china and unemployment in all the other states has risen. screw the FTA it has only hurt the USA
Also glod bless the USA. lol

a widget, like a gidget...are theoretical items. use them to stand for any product that we might produce. it's useful in economic models.

hows this economic 101
all the car companies are outsourcing thier parts, which saves them money. BUT if no one here has a job that pays more than 5.00/hr because all the jobs at the auto plant are gone, whos gonna buy the new car? this is exactly what is happening in this country and expecially in Michigan and it wont get any better unless this practice of sending all our manufacturing jobs overseas ends. |
Because lulu24 says so
tyvm ram and swm. that is why this country is so screwed up. buy overseas to save a buck but screw unemployment let someone else worry about it. i just saved a 1.50 on my towels that i will later cry on when i lose my job and do not understand WHY. we need to get our heads out of our butts and save this country it is almost too late

yah and if you go to business college they will give 101 reasons why outsourcing is good for america. shipping jobs overseas dont make sense economicly or militarily. its just dumb. its destroying our economic base and yet our colleges continue to indoctrinate this type of thinking into our young business types. We actually had to deprogram my sisters kid after she was in college, as if she was just out of a cult. (her father owns a huge manufacturing plant) what else would you expect from the liberal (communist)professors.
