ive said for years that if we all bought American products only, it wouldent take too many weeks for the big shots to see it our way. next time you save .50c on that widget that was made in Mexico, realise that we all will pay a much higher price eventually. There are other things that could help, like a tarriff on all foreign goods equal to the price difference. thats the true level playing field. it has always worked since the first cave man selling clubs to the other tribe had to give two flints to the chief so he could do business there. yet these business colleges now inform us that we must not do that as it wint work. its worked for 7000 yrs, whats changed?

the flaw in your logic is this:

why should we so widely diversify and attempt to make items that we can buy more cheaply elsewhere? if i can BUY it already made for HALF of what i spend to MAKE it...that's useless labor.

we should concentrate on making the things that are cheap for US, in THIS corner...and sell them to the countries that cannot make them, whether for lack of resources or ability. if each of us concentrates on making what WE are good at...then everyone profits.

we aren't losing jobs by doing so, either...we're gaining them. if we improve upon what we are already good at...then we can sell it to even MORE countries...and therefore MAKE jobs.

yup. were trading 50,000/ yr jobs for minimum wage jobs. theres a deal. how many people on minimum wage buy new houses? cars? boats? answer- not one. we need every manufacturing job we can find. when you outsource you are taking money from our economy and sending it overseas instead of making good jobs here. your logic is typical of someone who has been indoctrinated by the liberal /commie colleges. You cant really believe that its good to send our work overseas??? it can only weaken us to eliminate jobs here to save a few dollars per widget. whos gonna buy that widget with no money because they are unemployed?
there are huge divits in our cities here in michigan from manufacturing plants that are gone thanks to this type of thinking. It takes good paying jobs to keep the economy rolling along. in your world of everyone making minimum wage, they will buy food, and cheap clothes and thats about all. no widgets. cant afford a widget on unemployment.

i wonder why china and other countries charge us so much taxes and tariffs to let our goods into there country. but raise hell when we do the same thing re: NAFTA people get your eyes open or you will soon be speaking spanish or japinese or chinese or 15 other langueges but not english. and if you dont belive that you are truly foolish. and i am not trying to insult anyone, i am 53 years old and have seen these jobs go away and my kids cant get a decent job because of it. lets send a few more jobs to india also

gaining jobs? come to mich and find a job. there arnt any minimum or otherwise. theres so many houses being listed by the realtors that they dont have time to list them all. go to any heavy equipment dealer and look at the ROWS of reposesed equipment. How many builders are going broke in your county because they built spec houses and cant sell them? wake up. people are going broke because of outsourcing.

i am truly amazed by people that think we are not losing jobs here, i only hope that those that think that will lead a good life somewhere else. like Russia or india or some other hell hole. they do not deserve to live in the usa

lulu, im not picking on you, its just that ive been watching this disease called outsourcing destroy us and it makes me sick. i think its more obvious here in Michigan as we rely so much on the car factories. i saw this comming way back in the clintonista regime. i know a builder that is sitting on several spec houses. i have one myself. ill end up giving it away for cost rather than sitting on it for years, and im one of the lucky ones, i paid cash for it. The builders that are operating on borrowed money are just screwed. this is all a ripple effect from the auto plants downstate folding thier plants and getting thier parts overseas instead. Its just false economy to buy the cheaper widget overseas, as in doing so you have cost someone a good paying job.

and of course the part where you are 2 yrs away from retirement and punch in 3 minutes late, then get fired, so they can hire some mexican for minimum wage to replace you.

i didn't think you were picking...it's a typical mind-set. you are definitely not the only one to feel the way you do...and neither am i.

i'm actually trying to watch a stupid movie with my kid...and only answering on commercials, lol.

i suck at making shoes...but i'm reeeally good at making candles. i'll put my energy into making and selling the candles...and i'll buy my shoes from someone who is adept at making those.

the money is NOT just going out...it's coming in, as well. and the more candles i can sell...the more coming in. yes, my money leaves my household to buy the shoes...but if i sell more candles than i buy shoes...my household has profited.

the problem is that we are buying to many shoes and not making very many candles. also all those shoes should have a nice fat tarriff on them equal to or more than the difference in price between the foreign shoe and the ones made here. this is the way it has always worked. whats changed?

how do you compete in candle sales when your competition in china can build them for 17c on the dollar, and ship them here without paying any tarriffs? then when you want to sell your candles to china, you pay a huge tarriff for the privledge of doing business there, pricing you out of the market?

don't get me started on tariffs. that's a governmental control...which can restrict free market.

at least the government profits.

and if my competition could build them for such a discount...i'd find something to make that WOULD be cheaper here.

that's supposed to be the benefit of trade...we each shore up the areas where the other sucks at.
