Topic: Fact vs Opinion | |

There is no doubt about it the Internet is the greatest invention ever. Thank you Tim Berners -Lee... I think the greatest inventions are books and indoor plumbing. I actually think we were better people before the internet,,,,but thats just me one fact is that time moves on - maybe we need to learn to be better people with the internet. it's not going away. it is our new frontier learning starts from earning, the more instant, easy , and entitled we become, the harder it will be for us to 'learn' much of anything,,, |

learning starts from earning, the more instant, easy , and entitled we become, the harder it will be for us to 'learn' much of anything,,, Now you are on to something that is quite true. Because the human mind is just learning to think, the way it has structured its environment is actually inhibiting it from progress. Or more simply, civilization's greatest threat is itself. |

The mind is meant to construct human will, that is the first step. The second is how to add and subtract human will (society) to effect the same ends.
Right now, society is hardly more than a heap of people, perhaps one should work to make it more than a heap. |

There is no doubt about it the Internet is the greatest invention ever. Thank you Tim Berners -Lee... I think the greatest inventions are books and indoor plumbing. I actually think we were better people before the internet,,,,but thats just me For me...my opinion is that the single most important invention is the plow. With the advent of really effective agriculture, and eliminating the need to hunt or forage, it freed up a lot of time for humanity to spend it's brain power and ingenuity elsewhere....basically every other field I can think of. |

Let us pray for those who cannot withstand the religion forums. Pray extra hard for me. If I spend too much time in there I end up deactivating. As bad as that... I spend a lot of time on Politics but I gave up on religion a long time ago... |

a fact is an opinion, until another opinion stands stronger "then it's no longer a fact".
a fact is based on an opinion. when you make a fact, you make it from you'r opinion. Then other join this opinion and it becomes an common fact. if the majority later dissaprov it, it aint no longer a fact. kind of whats happening to old man Newtons facts in these days. more and more of them ar proven wrong based on new opinions. ergo: fact = opinion |

A fact is something that is true about a subject and can be tested or proven. Look for clues such as: " 56% of...., or "The patient experienced..." An opinion is what someone thinks about that subject. Look for clues such as: "I believe...", "It's obvious...", or "They should..." ....scary to see how modern internet culture has made the ability to distinguish between the two such a rare skill,,, I agree that not seeing the difference is a concern -even with your 56%, it's important to ask, 56% of what? but I don't think it's the fault of internet culture so much as it is the "dumbing down" of educational expectations (particularly in public school) to where that type pf critical thinking is not adhered to as a main priority not teaching students to think is as much a short fall as not expecting the mastery of basic skills (really another topic) also the media editorializes where they should not- in the past opinion was never permitted outside the editorial page |

a fact is a fact until it is disproven - he came in the door at 2pm is a fact "if you chose to follow time, wich is an opinion" it;s an opinion that he looked tired if it is somehow proven (thru electronic monitoring for example) that he came in th door at 205:06 - then we alter our fact t obe more exact or say approximately 2 pm yes. we adjust the facts to fit most peoples opinions judgements are opinions - he looked or he seemed anxious or he looked like he was on drugs < opinions the facts that support an opinion, the more sound it is and harded it is to change the opinion the opinions that support an fact, the more sound it is and harded it is to change the fact |
