It depends....is it a random stranger?....just the one? I know I would fight.

Is it a police officer?...I would be very quiet and extremely passive if it was a police officer with a gun...I trust them less than a random scary person.

Hmm, I wouldn't give a police officer reason to pull out a gun as over here it would have to be pretty damn serious(life threatening) for an officer to draw a gun on you.

If it's a man holding the gun or knife, I take it from him and then use it on him.

If it's a woman holding the gun or knife, I might get in and see where she's going with this.

Over here, the last thing pulled out is a gun...so to have a copper wave his gun at me...he has serious mental health issues..

I know it may seem facetious in my reckoning, not intended that way...I truly looked at the differences...and a copper with his gun out, directed at me, is probably the scariest of all..(we don't have the same gun laws...they are the only ones allowed to carry)...under the uniforms, there are the same flawed human beings as everywhere, difference is, they have the illusion of power.

I think a lot of it depends on your background. If you were forced to fight your way out in class, you have a different reaction than before. In class, if you are repeatedly grabbed and forced to fight your way out, a kind of calm rage comes over you that is different in certain situations. Not all though unfortunately. Ideally, you go from being a victim into a mind set of "how dare you" and that allows you to fight. It's hard to explain. No matter how often you practice though certain attackers will cause fear instead and you have to have the skills to pull you through. Even if it means afterwards, you curl up in a ball crying.

Im running as fast as I can, in a zig zag pattern so as not to to be hit by a bullet.

And if I get shot, oh well.

Totally agree. I think with some its fight or flight actually. I just know in my case if I hadn't fought off my attacker; I wouldn't be alive and here to discuss this with all you wonderful people.

Since I have only a split second to decide (and zero fear of actually dying) I am probably going to do what I have done in the past; stay where I am at least marginally safer, and attack them.

My experience is most people who use a weapon do so because they are already out to their mind or straight up cowards and can't defend themself without a weapon. And, often, not even well then. Many times when an assailant is told to or meets resistance they run. But if you are going to take someone down you have to go all the way.

Because; I can get in a few licks until I have a real opportunity to get away from them they are not going to get of scott free.

Way I look at it I am not going to get hurt or die for nothing. I don't go looking for fights or try to make enemies. But if they want to take me on they I might as well expect as much noise, mess,infliction of as much damage as possible. Defintely get a piece of them if they try to get me.

It is very important to remember criminals do not want to be seen or heard for the most part. Carrying things like personal alarms which are pretty sophisticated today, etc. help. Also if you carry a weapon, you do not announce. You just do.

Some cops pull their gun for anything. I'm sure they have rules for when they can and cannot do so, but the rules are based on how the situation 'appears' to them. They can claim anything they want for how the situation 'appeared' to them.

Yes, good point. There are many ways you can influence the attackers mindset - cause them to question whether its going to worth their while to proceed.

Having been military police and knowing how our legal system works here; its a very serious offence for a police officer to pull a gun out. There is a big investigation and lots of paperwork. Its almost a crime here pulling out your gun as a cop.

i was taught that if someone points a gun or a knife at you... you are dead. order flowers. BUT since you are still breathing you may as well do as much damage as you can before you are done flopping. Usually if you attack someone with a weapon, they are not expecting it and you have a fair chance at stopping them. start with something to get them to point the weapon away from you, like " dont you see that cop right there " then go to work. i have taken two guns home with me using this strategy... but then i have 20+ years of martial arts training..

Well, I have done through enough training from work to say that if someone come after me with a knife to get me out of the car or something. I would have to hand over whatever my possessions.

BUT, with my personality, more like I would fight him/her over it. Ain't lying down till I get a piece of you too! Make them re-think that when they want to strike out to another person, they better think again....

Here we pack our gun's openly so most will think before acting....
