I may be in the dark ages where it comes to cell phones.

I don't have one.

The first time I saw one in a movie, only rich drug king pins could afford such things. I wanted one in the worst way.

Now I cringe when I see trailer park welfare mom's in swets not only have them, all of her children also have them.

Everyone thinks they have to have a cell phone.

And mom's have to have their children have them so they can keep track of their children at all times.

Even children without cell phones that are way too young for them have play cell phones just to prepare them for the real thing.

Just shoot me I'm old.

Well Jeannie; I have one but I use it only for emergencies or to pass on info for my two bands while in transit. Its just a plain old cell phone; not one of the fancy apple ones. I have a pay as you go so most I would pay in a month is $5.00 as most of the times it is off. So, for my a cell phone is used strictly as a tool. Now the new phones have a locator beacon so wonder how many parents have that installed in their kids phones.

Another pet peeve of mine is that some sights, including dating sites, ask for your cell phone number in order to "prove who you are" or prove you are a real person.

That assumes that everyone on the planet has a cell phone.

It is also done for the purpose of putting your phone number on a list to be called by solicitors trying to sell you something.

That is b/s.I would never give out my cell number!
If you have a number,they can pretty much locate you from on line.
You don't get all the soliciters on the cell phone like you get on a landmine!

Oh, I have never been asked for my cell from any site; dating or non dating. The only place I have ever been asked for my cell phone for; which was optional; was on job applications.

Gmail asks for your phone number now. So if you lose your password .. they can text you a code to get back in.

I'm not gonna lie ... I'm attached to my cell phone. It charges all night next to me, haha. It is sad though that technology has become like this. I don't understand the point of iphones and such when all they do is cause you a bigger bill. I went to upgrade my phone last year to an NV3 and was told that my bill would be an extra 10 bucks because the internet automatically came with my phone. Even though I wasn't planning on using it, I still had to pay the extra. Well, I called verizon and apparently you can have that removed.

What's next? Are we gonna be living like the jetsons? Cause that's a little too much for me.

I'm not tooooo far out of the dark ages. I didn't get a cell till about 5 years ago and largely just for work (or just in case my bike would break down). Nothing fancy though. I'm one of the few people on Earth who still have a Razr. The thing is indestructible!

I never could understand why practically every kid has one. If a parent has to give one to a 10 y/o to keep track/in touch of him/her, I'm thinking some parenting classes might be in order......

I wouldn't mind having a portable phone that did nothing but make phone calls.

I don't need to take pictures, go on the Internet, text, take videos, do my taxes, have global positioning or any of that crap on it.

Just give me a phone that I can make an actual phone call on without having to be a computer genius.

I'm with you J.B. I don't have a cell phone either. I never really saw the point to them. I don't understand why people want to have folks calling them 24/7.

I also think that cell phones make everything more impersonal. No just sits and has a conversation with you anymore without "oh wait," and then they take some call or text. It's like they say "Be here now." Why worry about a sitution that you aren't even in, and ignore the people you're with?

I won't even go in to how they cause cancer, not just of the user, but in every living thing, or how they are killing off the honey bees, which will of course kill all of us. Nope won't even mention it!

That is the type of phone I have other than it can take pictures. Its a basic phone (LG) and doesn't connect to internet; play music, or a GPS. That would be the Apple phones. Funny thing is my friends were teasing and laughing at me about how old my phone was but stopped laughing when I asked how many of them can actually pay their bills off when they are paying for such an expensive phone.

It does come in handy having one with a camera or texts. Hey, you never know when you'd need a pic of something (how many people carry a regular camera with them 24/7?). Even if it's just for something like if you're in a fender bender (ALWAYS a good idea to take pics of that before you leave). For texts..... comes in handy if you only have to somebody something real quick like (I'm on my way) or something else that doesn't really need a call. It comes in handy for me all the time if I'm shoulder deep into an engine compartment and trying to coordinate getting parts, scheduling another customer, something quick that's not super urgent or just avoiding 'phone tag'.

Same here. They also stop laughing when theirs break every other month, can't get a good signal or anything else while I've only had a problem getting a signal ONCE (and only in about a 100 yard radius in a place in the middle of nowhere that NOBODY can get a signal). Then on any given day my phone gets dropped onto concrete 20 times, dropped into water once, run over with a creeper 10 times, hit with a hammer 10 times, and so on. After 5 years all I've had to do is replace the battery once (for a whopping $3!).

I don't have the fancy cell phone but I do have a cell phone. I got rid of my land line phone at least six years or more ago.... About the only ones that call me is my kids or family... Other then that if I do not have your number in my phone don't expect me to answer it.....

Cell phones can be used or abused but the latter does get on my last nerve.

I like my cheapo prepaid cell for necessity calls but I am not passing out the number and wasteing my minutes. Does save me steps and frusteration.

The Jitterbug does smeem like something I would consider because it is just basic and easy to use.

I have often wondered how good the GPS programs really are?
