It could drive anywhere i wanted to. Being quite independend. It was also a great car to sleep in during long travels. I don't like fast rides, 100km per hour was perfect comparing to madness with friends Alfa Romeo. And to be honest I just love driving through deep mud instead of solid roads :P

To each their own, but personally there's not one thing I like about them. They're WAY underpowered. They have a horrible ride. They're noisy. They're top heavy and don't handle worth a crap. The back seats especially aren't suitable for anybody bigger than a 10 year old. The convertibles soft-tops are a PAIN to put up and down. I can go on and on. From a professional standpoint(I'm an automotive technician), they're mostly junk (which is probably why I don't see too many around here anymore). A good friend of mine bought a Geo Tracker with a soft-top(same car, just rebadged) new in '95 or '96, so I really got to spend quite a bit of time with that particular one. One time a few of us took it for about an 1 1/2 hour trip and for some reason I ended up riding in the back seat. That was the worst ride I've ever had! Even compared to one time when I spent roughly 1200 miles on a 'standing room only' Greyhound bus! I already knew the bodies/interiors were crap, but one night somebody put a M80 (or something similar) in the center console and lit it. The body was so poorly made that the explosion actually buckled the doors out and bent the steel part of the roof enough to total it! The windows didn't even break, so, obviously the glass was stronger than the metal! Also, keep in mind that it had a soft-top (which aren't too strong), so that REALLY says something!

Well, you're right. My vitara was actually 2.0 v6 from 1995 and I spent tons of money to make it as it is at photo. Ifs hurts the most, and in general weak front diff that required to be reinforced with additional brackets. The rear passenger space sucks a lot too, but I've been never sitting there, it was only extra loading space becouse of ridiculously small trunk. And for sleeping I was removing rear seat backs. Almost forgot that most part of the love to this car was becouse of time I've spend on rebuilding it ;]

A 2.0l V6 in a '95? I didn't think they used that motor till a few years later? The whole front suspension/steering in general left much to desire. However, I don't think they were really MEANT to see much(if any) off-road use in the first place though. I think they were intended to be a 'cute, little, chick car'(no offense) that can get out of a snowy driveway. Saying they even have a trunk is ...... ummmmmmm...... exaggerating. It's possible that even my Stingray has more storage space! laugh I can understand the part about getting attached to it after all the time spent working on it. Every once in a while I get bummed out after a customer decides to sell their car after I've kept it on the road for years. laugh

Those were actually pretty reliable cars (other than timing belts and head gaskets....and boy did I make a lot of money from doing those. laugh ).

1971 MGB with chrome bumpers and a hardtop to go with the convertible top. Bought it at 100,000 miles back in the day when the odometer flipped on the drive home to 0, I felt like I had a new car. LOL.

happy
Now y'all got me all nostalgic for 1985 again. Bodywork needed.

Years ago I used to work for a guy who had 2 of those. I always thought of the circus when he was in it (he was 6'7" and about 350 pounds).

LOL. hope he kept the top down ! I am 5'0 and probably back then about 110 lbs soaking wet, so it fit me great. And in the winter, your feet were always warm because they were directly under the engine block.

I never actually saw him drive them. Probably because of the few times I saw him wedge himself in only to sit in either of them I thought I was going to have to use the tow truck to yank him out! Obviously he had the tops down. Otherwise it woulda looked like the scene at the beginning of The Flintstones where Dino sticks his head through the roof of the car at the drive-in......

My first (unofficial) car was a '78 Merc Monarch 2-door that was handed down from my Mom my Junior year of HS. .

But, my first (official) car that I bought myself my senior year was/is a '81 Camaro.

Right after I painted it and was in the middle of reassembly after the first time I totaled it.

In the middle of disassembly after the second time I totaled it....

That car had a HARD life. laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh One day I might even rebuild it AGAIN!

To add a pic, you need to have it online somewhere (you can't post anything on the forums directly from your computer unless you first upload it to your profile pics). To post a pic that's not from your profile pics you need to have it on a site like Photobucket. Once you do one of those two things you need to copy the URL of the pic here with [ I M G ] in front of it and [ / I M G ] after it. * DONT put the spaces in the 'IMG' parts.

LOL I know quite a few people who owned MG's but didn't actually drive them----those dual carburetors were kind of tough to keep balanced and running smoothly. But when they did, oooooh baby! I learned how to drive a manual/5 speed on mine and I think it had a racing clutch, so at first, I would drive it, but would have to re-start it at every stop sign. Loved that car. It changed my life.
