and those who's blood doesn't mingle with the hot sauce
will squirm their way out and fall to the ground ~ splat!

The aliens will bring giant brawy paper towels with them.

and let their alien pets eat the scraps

Only their alien dogs. The alien cats will be too finicky to eat us.

for us, yes. a vegetarian and one who thinks a sandwich is a good dinner, the cats won't eat us. perhaps those with a better, meatier diet. i hear alien cats like human eyeballs.

Only the blue ones.

blue cats?

Yes, the seal points and tuxedos prefer ears.

And hopefully life as we know it won't come to an end before I get
the chance to put that knowledge to use.

In answer to the OP:

Yes, it's very possible that we will have a sudden change in lifestyle in the not too distant future.

I do not have the time or ability to really prepare. To do so would require learning a whole lot of skills that take a long time to learn. I have emergency supplies, but nothing that will keep me for more than a few weeks.

I'm hoping that I am killed in a catastrophic event. I don't think I want to try and survive the aftermath.

I don't know if I will see it in my life time but if we have to go with out conventional plumbing and electricity I think I would be ok. Already lived for 6 months with no running water or sewer when I first bought this place and I had a wood stove for heating the house, as for power being the way it is out here, we have gone days with no power. frustrated You learn to make do. but the worst part was having a teenager in the house with you. grumble

i could get to you in less than two weeks. if something happens, just wait until i get there. then i will have the skills needed to take care of you. we can survive, we'll go macgyver on the world. plus i've got a killer mexican army knife

The only constant in this world is change. Since we are on a timeline and not static see everything all at once, that means everything is constantly changing with every second that passes.
So, yea, everyday that we put behind us is the end of the world as we know it.spock

Do you believe that you will see the end of the world as we know it in your life time? Are you taking any steps to prepare yourself?

I'm not talking about the end of life on Earth or the complete destruction of the Earth. I simply mean the break down of modern society and reverting back to a time without electricity and other modern conviences. This could be through plague, extreme weather or natural disaster, ect.

I find myself caught between preparing for a life in the modern world and preparing for the collapse of the modern world. Do you ever find yourself in the same conflict?

No, I simply wait for it to come.smokin

The way of this lifestyle, societally, politically and ethically, is showing it is unsustainable...the accumulations of debts, both personally and country, the illusionary ethos of shares and stocks....the whole illusionary concept of money as an energy exchange...

Greed based mentality is unsustainable...we are all inter-connected irrespective of our mindsets...the mere fact we all share a coomon address, this planet shows this...as this continues to break down and fragment, those who are resilient, and aware....or awake move quietly and purposely towards co-creating sustainable communities...where energy conversion is more about the greater good of all...and working together.

More is not more....the have more, get more, want more easily discarded, instant gratification mentality is madness....pure insanity, and not part of our herding mentality as the human animal...co-existing is the instinctual.

Couldn't agree more.

I guess i am not waiting for it, but i grew up in the bush, I could survive well enough if we lost power and the basics, food and shelter is here, we where taught to hunt as kids.
so really it would be just another adventure in life.

exactly what I was thinking

think of all the things our kids have never even HEARD of that were a part of our lives,, they have 'ended' (in effect)

think of all the 'values' that were once common that are now much more socially diluted,,,,,,,they have , in effect, ended

in fact, just the notion of anything being the 'norm' has ended,,,,

I feel preparedness is always a good thing no matter, as long as it doesn't make it so you cannot live in this current environment.

You know, crazy from fear of ALL the possible things that can happen.
