What is android roms u refering2? I'm not into that myself, having decided that technology has now gone so far it's likely harm the world more than benefit it, but my understanding is that an android is a small handheld computer that can handle more programs than a standard "brand name" device that looks similar, and that a ROM is something like a program or application that allows a person to do something with the android. In other words, I think it' basically a "program" for a small computer-like device, but if I'm wrong, someone will surely jump in to correct me and both of us will get the proper answer. |

Just to clarify what I believe this guy is saying:
Android = An operating system made by Google for use on smart phones and tablets Rooting = Unlocking a phone or tablet to allow running of programs that are not officially approved by Google Roms = Digital files of legacy video games that can be played in computer programs called emulators ....either that, or he's in love with an android |

Android may get banned in the U.S. in the somewhat near future, so I'm holding off on buying one. HTC got many of their devices banned recently.

One thing for sure, the smart phone. ( Android ) its a useful tool.
I laugh at myself understanding I hold the entire world "connection" in my purse, in the palm of my hand. Never, ever imagined getting a cell phone. Most of my friends, take that back, , all of my friends had a cell phone. When I was in a predicament to get one, I thought about it as an investment. I received "top notch" customer service. When I asked:why do you call it smart-phone?" And the reply was: "its like a computer" ...I knew that was "the choice!". Now, I have learned and understood what an effective tool it has become to be. Little by little, I am enjoying lot of features that come along with it. Love?! It...perhaps if I get to hear ,the voice, from a new love! I Honor my past. I look forward to a new love! |

android is google's version of linux. HawaiiMusikMan has nailed the rest. Not quite... Yes, roms can be what he described, but not in this case, in this case it's a customized version of the AndroidOS, apps, and features specifically targeted for that model phone. And same with rooting, again, yes it can mean that, it can also mean to gain "root" level or "administrator" access to the device, allowing you to access and modify files and directories that would otherwise be locked. A lot of companies are making this harder to do these days, HTC being the exception as they encourage modifying your phone for your needs, the WHOLE FCKN POINT OF ANDROID/LINUX/ETC IN THE FIRST PLACE. plz don't pass on incorrect information ;p Oh, and I for one, love the idea of KDE on a ATOM device, much more than I do Android, but to me, linux is linux, so for now I take Android on the devices I can't get another distro onto. |

Rooting = Unlocking a phone or tablet to allow running of programs that are not officially approved by Google If you care about how corporations are trying to control you and your use of devices that you own, this is very important: Google does not prevent you from running any programs on android. Google does take steps to ensure that their app market doesn't have malicious software in it. Google does nothing to interfere with you side-loading 3rd party software from outside the marker. Certain cell phone service provides and handset makers may have locked down their devices. The open source license google has chosen has made this possible, but Google isn't actively involved. If you own an android device and find that you are restricted from freely loading programs onto it, this is not intrinsic to android - this was done by the hardware manufacturer or cell service provider. Rooting = Unlocking a phone or tablet to allow running of programs that are not officially approved by Google I own a G2. My phone hasn't been rooted, but I can run all kinds of apps that haven't been approved by google. |
