do you mean fired or laid off ? been laid off from 2 jobs because of plant shut downs. got fired once when I was a teenager.

Yeah, Ohio is an at will state. You can get fired for any or no reason.

Yes, I have been fired twice since 2009. Both times it was a manufactured excuse, and my last employer outright lied to the State. (Five co-workers offered to testify on my behalf because of it, including the Chef who was forced to do the firing by the owner.)

Prior to 2009, I had been working since 1987 when I was 15 years old. During those 22 years, I only filed for Unemployment once, and even then I collected for just 2 weeks. In the past 2 years, I have had to collect Unemployment 3 times (the third time was a seasonal lay off). For someone like me, that is very frustrating, especially when the last two times I was let go just before October. Here on the Connecticut shoreline, many businesses slow down from September to March which means there aren't many jobs available even when the economy is good.

Yes laid off in May 2010 due to slow business at my company-
still unemployed...

I was fired once when I was 21 or 22. Their reason was because I called off 2 days (I might have called off of work MAYBE 3 or 4 times my whole life). Keep in mind that we got something like 100 feet of snow overnight and the governor declared the whole area in a state of emergency. Work was a 45 minute drive for me and I was driving a Camaro at the time (They don't like snow very well), so I really didn't want to TRY and make it there just to have nothing to do (How many people take a car to a garage in that kind of weather?). I found out later that only 2 customers showed up all day (and there were 3 or 4 other techs there). I thought it was interesting excuse for them because I was training the managers brother for 3-4 weeks before I was fired AND I had a mandatory raise coming in 2-3 weeks....... Do the math......

I have been layed off before. Sometimes it was permanent because of seniority and other times it was temporary for the same reason. I remember on more than one occasion not making it through the employment process.

Was fired Dec 2009 after almost 7 years with the same company.

I was only fired from one job. I was permanently laid off from my last employer in Nov 2010. I loved that job and loved everyone I worked with. Company was sold and the new owners are now in IL. The only people who kept their jobs were the local sales force to sell for them.

I was fired for having bulimia. I'm ok now though.
