“Fathom the odd hypocrisy that Obama wants every citizen to prove that they are insured, but people don't have to prove they are citizens.” ~Ben Stein

My take is that it is BS. I am a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada. At 15 I had to apply for proof of citzenship papers because of my birth certificate, before I could get my learner's permit. I have to show my proof of citzenship papers every time I get a job and any time I deal with the government. I'm not supporting the insurance plan at all.

If it makes you feel any better...I was born and raised in Texas and when I apply for anything, I have to show my Social Security card and some ask for birth certificates too.

The gubment has gotten too damn big and must be taken down a peg. The people we elect quickly get this idea that they are some how enlightened and know more than everyone else. Government reminds me of George Orwells Animal Farm!

I have a Social Security Card also that I have to show everywhere. They started the proof of citizenship push after 9/11. My older brother never had any problems showing his foreign birth certificate and SSC to get his driver's license.

Such as what? The last thing I had to show a birth certificate for was my passport and that was several years ago.

GA requires you to show a birth certificate to obtain your drivers license. It has to have a raised stamp too. Not a proof of birth. I had to order one from my birth hospital.

such as...hiring for a job. I've had to provide that at every job I've every worked at

I needed them as proof of ID when I had to replace a lost DL

I think it comes down to people creating false documentation and other people being paid to look the other way or they really don't care and pay them under the table. There are ways of getting around anything if you know the right people and/or have the right money.

Ah. Using them in place of a drivers license is different. I thought you meant showing your birth certificate and social security card were required for a job.. not just in place of a drivers license.

huh I did have to provide all of that before I started a job, otherwise I wouldn't have been hired

I listed 2 examples: job and getting a DL. If you never had to do that, great. I have always had to provide that info for every job

I think you misunderstood what I said. I didn't say instead of a DL. For a DL (at least here) you have to show these things to get a DL. Once you have a DL it's assumed you provided it to the state already. A job is different. I had to provide a DL & SS card everytime and sometimes a birth certificate as well

I actually taught my son to take his BC, SS and DL to job interviews, just in case. He hasn't needed his BC yet, just a DL and SS. Most of the jobs I've had I needed all 3. There were some I only needed 2
