Topic: Food Prices Rise | |

Maybe Obama can address this issue from the beach in Rio..
Wholesale prices jumped last month by the most in nearly two years due to higher energy costs and the steepest rise in food prices in 36 years. Excluding those volatile categories, inflation was tame. The Labor Department said Wednesday that the Producer Price Index rose a seasonally adjusted 1.6 percent in February -- double the 0.8 percent rise in the previous month. Outside of food and energy costs, the core index ticked up 0.2 percent, less than January's 0.5 percent rise. Food prices soared 3.9 percent last month, the biggest gain since November 1974. Most of that increase was due to a sharp rise in vegetable costs, which increased nearly 50 percent. That was the most in almost a year. Meat and dairy products also rose. Energy prices rose 3.3 percent last month, led by a 3.7 percent increase in gasoline costs. Separately, the Commerce Department said home construction plunged to a seasonally adjusted 479,000 homes last month, down 22.5 percent from the previous month. It was lowest level since April 2009, and the second-lowest on records dating back more than a half-century. The building pace is far below the 1.2 million units a year that economists consider healthy. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Wholesale-prices-up-16-pct-on-apf-3777454020.html?x=0&.v=1 |

Those are bound to go up! We have to import our oil. We can't drill our own! Think of the animals man! Sure we could drill in Alaska. What about the bunny rabbits? Where are they going to build their houses? Next to an oil pipe? We could sell the oil yes. We could lower gas prices by pumping our own. But what about the freakin animals! I'd rather abort 100 babies than see one bunny rabbit covered in oil! I'll pay 10 bucks a gallon before I see us drill our own oil! I can bike to work. Sure it takes twice as much time, effort, and will get you wet when it rains. But at least the bunny rabbits and whales of the world will be safe. |

Not too long ago America was considered the "breadbasket" of the world. We had the ability to produce more food per farmer than anyone in the world and our peracre yields were the highest anywhere.
We still produce a lot and our yields are high, but production is now dependent upon foreign oil to run the tractors, trains, ships, and aircraft needed to to get the grain to a buyer. The crops are now genetically modified and fewer and fewer of the world's population want to eat "Frankenstein" food. Our laws have given the right to own genes which means grower must buy seed from Monsanto and a few others or be sued out of business. Only a few companies produce most of the food in America. Yeah, prices are going up with the price of oil. The list of problems which are causing this to happen are very long and largely include energy policy, food policy, immigration policy, and foreign policy. |

We are only burning up 30% of the corn we produce so the leftists can feel better about the environment. Who cares that the poor can't afford to buy any. They can just pour some sugar in a pile of mud and call it dinner. That is the compassionate left for you.. |

Most environmentalists (who actually know anything) admit that making fuel out of corn was a HUGE mistake. It doesn't save any oil, it may actually use more oil, it drives the price of corn up, it wastes land that could be useful growing something needed, etc. But since it is now LAW, it ain't gonna change anytime soon. With a little luck, some of the potential bio crops will prove successful and help us out of the oil crunch. |

And, due to regulations and taxes, it's agin da' law to make your own fuel out of waste vegetable oil. |
