Darwin Australia.. There are no drawbacks. The people are wonderful and friendly. The lifestyle is slow. There is heaps of work. Our winters hit a low of around 80, our summers a top of around 110. Its never busy or crowded, I so love where i live. But if I could be with my man, I would move whereever and still find something there to make me just as happy. You just described Abilene, Texas. (cept for having the worst storm since 1905 hit us this winter) We seem to average about 105 in the summer with 99 being cool and the relatively rare 110+ being hot. We have Long horned cattle and coyotes. We have Road Runners out looking for rattle snakes. All the native plants have thorns or needles and usually poisonous. The land is flat and you can see for miles. The dirt is red and our skies are huge. We grow primarily cotton and wheat. Oil drilling is a big part of our economy and wind farms are beginning to really get in on the action. My home town..Abilene....is in the Guiness Book (again) for the dubious record of "Most Churches Per Capita" ...We got a sh**load of em. We have a heavily barricaded religious compound of polygamists with armed guards. And, Dyess AirForce base (1/4 mile from my work) houses the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons on Earth...with the central wing for global B-series bombers of the USAF. Our local specialty cuisine is Catfish, Chuck Wagon Bar-B-Que, and chicken fried steaks. At Joe Allen's Bar-B-Que...When you finish your meal...a little old man dressed in barber shop quartet duds will come over and ask to take any kids present (including adults) back for a vanilla soft serve cone (free) and to say "Hi" to Red ....is is a saddle wise LongHorn cow. It is in a paddock behind the restaraunt...it is tame as an old dog. The kids can sit on it and pet it and it don't care. Great Photo op. Nights can be gorgeous. Days can be a taste of Hell. Our women are beautiful and independant. Our men are very polite but don't take no sh**. |

I live in Portland Oregon. The great Pacific Northwest. I like it here because the air is clean, the water is drinkable and its not too crowded. I grew up in southern California..smog...foul water..and overcrowded. Mountains all around and the beach to the west. Its always green. It rains and rains and rains I love it. As a matter of fact its raining right now... Why Nampa Id? I drive through there on my way to Boise to visit my daughter and my new grandson...he's a cutie. Why Nampa? Because I met the most wonderful man on this site close to four years ago and he asked me to marry him. Idaho is soooo much cheaper to live in compared to NY and I love the feel and peacefulness of it. |

Las Vegas,
its clean and safe where we live, which is great for the kids its pet friendly, which is also great for the kids there is little employment opportunity outside of the casinos,,,which is not good for the grown ups and summer is RIDICULOUSLY hot, which is not good for some grown ups (like me) I think its pretty, I will probably move due to the slow employment and the heat though,,, Id like to move someplace more moderate in temperature , but I am not willing to compromise safety and cleanliness any ideas? |

I live in Sister Bay Wisconsin.
I have steady work year round Major tourist attraction in the summer months. I grew up here so family is close. I enjoy the four seasons especially winter. It's cold, but rarely tornadoes or flooding. Small community, many close friends. I love it!! |

Bolivar, Ohio...east central Ohio, 12 miles south of Canton, just east of I-77.. Moved here a yr after losing my husband and mom. I had plans to move to Missoula, Mt but because of a health issue with my son, I had to postpone my move for awhile. This town and connecting town (Zoar) if full of civil war and revolutionary war history including some surrounding areas.. I actually moved here because it was the only place I could find an apartment on one floor..I got lucky and have a pool, garage and a woodburner..I like it here but would like to move to warmer climate in winter..getting tooo old for all the snow and ice...lol Ohio weather is hot and humid in the summer and winter can be from not much snow to alot..Also close to a beautiful lake..
