I think they do it specifically to mess with people. I don't think it's done in the name of science, it's probably more like a drunken dare. Alien #1 "Do it man, I dare you!!" Alien #2 "You think I won't??? Watch!!" Alien #1 "Ooo!! You're a sick b@st@rd." Alien #2 "Oh God, the smell!!! Let's put this thing back!!"
