Courts require witnesses to tell 'the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth'

wouldnt it be nice if news sources were held to that same standard?

Reporters simply report. They seldom have actual knowledge of the facts.

I know that is the way it used to be. The news was straight to the point and reporting was a respectable profession.

Now it's all about 'breaking news' which at times can be called broken news because the facts are'nt always all together. Like a big race to report.

There are also plenty of sources claiming to be news and actually have 'news' in their names, but are fueled more by editorial opinions etc.

I would love to see more reporters and news show hosts stick to proven facts instead of offering opinions that favor certain groups.

Yes, truth and nothing but the truth would be refreshing.
I suspect, they get raw news then, add their spin for ratings.

not just the reporters though, when I say 'news source' I refer to the whole NEWS team responsible for getting the story out which includes those responsible for RESEARCH and VERIFICATION and editing

You can never remove the human factor from anything.

I don't mind the less than totally honest reporting, but I really can't stand the people that inject their own opinions and political views into their "reporting".

Do any of you remember Jessica Lynch of Iraq war fame? That twisted tale of how she was rescued from an Iraqi hospital after she was shot stabbed and raped? That story turned out to be false in so many ways yet all we remember are the headlines.

April 27. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch runs a long piece looking at the stories that the media got wrong in Iraq, including a large section on Lynch:

"News accounts based on military sources said that the 19-year-old Lynch, a supply clerk with the 507th Ordnance Maintenance Company, had been shot repeatedly and stabbed when Iraqi forces ambushed her unit on March 23 and that she was then tortured before Navy Seals and Army Rangers stormed the hospital April 1 and brought her out.

Key elements in the story appear to have been wrong. Lynch's father and her Army doctor have both said there is no evidence that she was shot or stabbed. There is as yet no substantiation of any torture. Doctors at the hospital say that when the rescue team swooped in the building was undefended; militia forces had fled the day before."
