Topic: Illegals don't just work farms... | |

I think Joe Arpaio has arrested more illegals last quarter than Obama has since he's been in office and that's probably not far from the truth. Im sure its absolute truth, being one is a SHERIFF and the other is the PRESIDENT |

Hussein must be jealous of Uncle Joe.
That must be the reason to sue him and tell him not to count on Immigration Enforcement getting them out of the country. |

This problem is far bigger than some transient farm workers picking fruit and vegetables. when in the nevada and california area it came to my attention that it was difficult to obtain work in construction (unless you spoke spanish), defficult to obtain work in the concrete precast industry (unless you were willing to do skilled workd for unskilled pay - and spoke spanish). Me and a friend once drove a car into the parking lot of a precast concrete company at a high rate of speed, stopped in a cloud of dust, jumped out of the car and shouted INS at the top of our lungs... In roughly 15 minutes NOT A SINGLE EMPLOYEE (except for two welders - white... and a forklift driver - black) were left in the assembly area... the owners were quite pissed. Imagine that You are absolutely correct. At any given construction site, most (if not all) of the workers are illegal with a few (sometimes none) legal supervisors. The tread is to come to America, get a job as say, a plumber's helper (or electrician, carpenter, concrete finisher, mason, etc.) and learn the basics. After a year or two (sometimes much less) they take the skilled positions under subcontractors that citizen Americans used to hold, but at reduced pay. The people who say that illegals take only jobs that are unwanted are either lying or totally ignorant of the realities. Over 70,000 illegals came in to take construction jobs in New Orleans after Katrina with the knowledge of government officials. The decision was made to "allow them to work without deportation to speed up the repair of New Orleans". The workers covered every skilled trade. Both political parties do not want to offend these workers as both see them as potential voters. |

Hussein must be jealous of Uncle Joe. That must be the reason to sue him and tell him not to count on Immigration Enforcement getting them out of the country. I wonder if jealousy is the reason for the other 2700 lawsuits filed against him (many BEFORE Obama and many non federal) or if its the reason why so many cops dont support him like State of Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Five, Maricopa County Deputies Association, |

If the government was serious about the issue they would start imposing $100,000 per illegal caught working fines.
How many businesses would risk paying that kind of fine? Not many.. if any Until that happens it is all just lip service. |

Big business sees them as victims they can abuse with low pay, no insurance coverage, no unemployments paid, no workmans comp paid out, basically very expendable labor force. Almost as good as slavery was for this country at one time. |

Big business sees them as victims they can abuse with low pay, no insurance coverage, no unemployments paid, no workmans comp paid out, basically very expendable labor force. Almost as good as slavery was for this country at one time. Counterpoint: Up here, the illegals are more than happy to work "under-the-table". To them, it's more money in their own pocket, and it helps keep them from being deported. However, if they feel an employer is mistreating them or taking them for granted, they have no problem saying sayonara and finding a new job. That's because so many employers are willing to hire them to save on taxes, even if there is a language barrier. So the question becomes: who is taking advantage of who? The answer: Both are taking advantage of the rest of us. Do you see the labor cost dropping on the bill from your carpenter or electrician? Do you see restaurants lowering prices on their menus? Some of the jobs being taken used to be filled by high school students or young adults fresh out of high school. Many of these young people don't want to work with someone who speaks poor English, or in some cases none. I've had to brush up on my Spanish after almost 20 years without having to use it. I don't like it, but it has become a necessity. Now I enjoy playing dumb until my coworkers begin talking about something that catches my interest, then suddenly I join in speaking Spanish. After that, they become cautious about what they say around me. They always thought I didn't understand. Having a had 7 years of Spanish in school, a cousin-in-law from Spain, and 3 cousins all fluent in Spanish, I think I should be able to follow a conversation from time to time at the very least. And that's not mentioning having had to train multiple workers using Spanish only followed by teaching them English afterward so they understood other coworkers. Like I said, I don't like it, but I'm not the one signing the checks either. [A list of countries that coworkers have come from: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil (Portuguese, but generally they are here legally).] |
