JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Washington (AFP) – A US soldier was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to shooting at Afghan civilians.
Staff Sergeant Robert Stevens, 25, also was demoted to the rank of private but was spared discharge from the military under the sentence handed down in the first court martial linked to a rogue army unit alleged to have killed Afghans for sport. Stevens pleaded guilty to four of the five charges against him, including shooting "in the direction of" men he knew to be civilians rather than enemy fighters. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101202/wl_sthasia_afp/afghanistanunrestusprosecutemilitary 9 months for admiting to his guilt? Good lord this guy reminds me of that scene from Speilburgs schniedlers list! what has this country become? We truly are a nation of war criminals. |

So because of this purely isolated incident we are all "war criminals"? Gimme a break already.... Four more US soldiers are implicated in the case. The soldiers have been charged with other crimes, including mutilating bodies and keeping body parts as trophies. Imagine if we lose this war and actualy go to a Nuremburg type trial. Our entire government would be guilty. Bush Obama Pelosi, Hillary. We fabricated reasons for war many were cheerleaders. I wonder if the religouse members of the forum realy believe in their hearts we are doing the lords work? |

Libs called Vietnam vets babykillers. how many did he get? probaly wasn't enough so whats your point? what goes around, comes around... maybe if they weren't so keen on killing "unarmed" civilians, it wouldn't be a problem... were the 3000 people at the WTC armed? how about the suicide bombers? were they targeting armed military or unarmed civilians? |

I wonder if the religouse members of the forum realy believe in their hearts we are doing the lords work? "When we do good, nobody remembers. When we do bad, no one forgets" What does religion have to do with anything? And let me tell you a secret, we're ALL guilty of something. What we are "doing" is attempting to root out the source of a serious threat and neutralize that threat with any means necessary. How about we talk about the soldiers (and their families) who've sacrificed so very much to not only protect all Americans in general, but also the Afghans themselves. To make assertions that America as a whole is rotten to the core because a few criminals decided to go Rambo is asinine. imo |

Libs called Vietnam vets babykillers. You'd have had to been living in a cave to not hear about it all over the news for at least a couple years. John Kerry is one of 'em that called them that. Did people really call Vietnam veterans baby killers? Answer Yes. many protestors were unfair to the reurning veterans, many of whom where drafted and didn't really want to be there. additional details Yes they did. To really answer the question, lets look at who said that. Although millions of people across the USA were against the war, not all of them took part in the demonstrations and even those that did, not all of those people resorted to violence and name calling. But, some more radical protestors did resort to calling returning veterans names, including baby killers. They did that because they perceived the veterans as wantonly killing innocent civilians, including babies. In actuality, most combat veterans took exceptional care when fighting around civilians not to injure or kill them. This caution sometimes led to injuries and death to themselves. However, the media and the photographers that witnessed the death and destruction of civilians and wrote about it, inflamed the anti war groups back in the US. Rightly or wrongly, they made the deaths of civilians more numerous than they actually were. And of course, the real cases of american war atrocities like the MyLai Massacre, only helped to insure that more and more people back in the states believed that all veterans were baby killers. I wonder how many see this action (intentionally killing 'innocents' for 'sport') as worse than asking to be discharged for religious beliefs?
priorities and patriotism are odd bed fellows |

"Eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind." one of my favorite pearls of wisdom from my parents,,,(I know its not their original quote,,,) Still one of the truest and most logical quotes I've ever heard. It's slightly different than the one that Mahatma Ghandi spoke. "An eye for an eye leaves everybody blind." |

One thing we can always count on from your posts is some sort of negative, anti military, anti American, gloom and doom news. You certainly won't miss any opportunity to find any excuse to show the world how America is this horrible place filled with horrible people serving in our military. These cases or so rare they are almost unheard of.We all know these things happen from time to time and it should be no surprise. You certainly seem to have no problem with our enemy playing by no rules, cutting the heads off of civilians, blowing innocents to pieces by suicide bombs, torturing and beating US soldiers, and hundreds of other things I can't think of. |
