born a middle child into a middle class life
middle of the road emotions, middle of the road strife
not the tallest, not the smallest, not the best
not in front, not in back, just in with the rest
no blue ribbons, no came in third place
no best in show, no gone without a trace
now with all the smiles, with all the tears
the middle days have turned to middle years
my middle class family now grown, now apart
with a middle class mate, a new family did start
three children, two cars, and a house all just a piddle
not upper crust, not in a gutter, just right in the middle
