I just signed up a week ago and my question is "how do you know if somebody send you an IM" This is somehow different from Yahoo messenger and people are giving me their yahoo ID and telling me to chat at yahoo. This seems not fair to Mingle2 when people meet in this website then will go to yahoo to continue chatting. Anyway, let me know the secret in finding how you would know if somebody send you an IM. Thanks.

That's because those type of people are usually scamers.

If someone wants to IM -- and presuming you have your IM feature turned on -- there will be a little box that pops up on your screen telling you that (name of person) wants to talk on IM. You will then have the option to accept or reject this. If you accept, a larger IM box will appear and will take a moment to connect.

Anyone who tries to get you to go to Yahoo is a scammer, though. I report them immediately so Admin can remove their accounts.

I keep getting people saying that they're from here popping up on my Yahoo IM. I don't think I've ever had my Yahoo posted here, so I'd like to know how they put the two together!

I think I figured out how they get my IM'r (even though they must be phishing to figure out I'm on Yahoo). All I'll say is "DUH!". lol Personally I don't mind scammers messaging me (it gives me a chance to amuse myself), but I hate the ones that want me to add them and never say anything!

You nailed it, ujGearhead. It's an unfortunate reality in today's internet, but that's the way it is.

Now if I could just figure out what kind of scammer wont even try to talk to you. I sure hope they have a day job!

Hi Notellano1,

If the other person is in stealth or has the IM feature turned off, then you won't see the IM button.

Otherwise, You will see an orange button under the members main profile picture to IM with them.
Hope this helps,

Kim

*edit to add * Oh and I believe they have to be online. Sorry, my brain isn't functioning at full capacity laugh

Hi, kaka2010. Yes. Once the window opens, you have to type in a message and send it. If you don't get a reply, then he/she is not responding for one reason or another (possibly because he/she is away from the computer). If you're literally doing that hundreds of times without success, then you might want to consider the content of your messages.
