why is store lemonade made with artificial flavoring, yet dish washing soap is made with real lemons? Easy Artificial flavorings have a far longer shelf life which is important for ingested foods or beverages. They are wholly synthetic and can render the intended flavor accurately with no degredation in palatability or a multi year shelf life. "Natural Flavors" are actually bacteria that have been soaked in the intended flavoring substance and then the bacteria is killed using UV light or Ozone to disrupt reproduction yet leave the cell membrane intact, providing a tiny lil corpse of flavor. This proceedure is commonly used with food items that have shorter shelf lives and are commonly refridgerated or frozen to delay the decay of the bacterial membranes. Actual lemon juice is standard stuff for non food item cleaning supplies. Fruit that is not food grade is sold in bulk and when mixed with the chemicals common in detergents or soaps (petroleum distillates ) are essentially cut off from the air supply need to incur rot. It is amazing the crap you gotta learn to get a chemical plant operators liscence. When reading labels..I always go for the artificial flavors...zero chance of salmonella or e-coli induced recalls. |
