Obama: Fox News is 'destructive' to America



"(CNN) - President Obama is pulling no punches when it comes to Fox News, declaring the cable news outlet to be "destructive to [America's] long-term growth."

In a more than 8,000-word interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Obama compared the cable news channel to papers owned by William Randolph Hearst at the turn of the 20th century that unabashedly pushed the media titan's own political views.

"You had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition – it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view," Obama told the magazine.

Officials in the Obama White House have long made Fox News a punching bag, launching a full blown offensive last year when aides declared the network to be "opinion journalism masquerading as news." Then-White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said the cable outlet "operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party," and top aide Valerie Jarret called Fox "clearly biased."

But the new comments from Obama constitute the president's most direct attack yet on the network owned by business mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Fox News pushes "a point of view that I disagree with. It's a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world," Obama said.

"But as an economic enterprise, it's been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number one concern is, it's that Fox is very successful."

Fox has yet to respond to the president. But during the administration offensive against the network last year, network spokesman Michael Clemente slammed the White House for continuing "to declare war on a news organization instead of focusing on the critical issues that Americans are concerned about."

I agree with Obama.

I find it funny that FOX is so bad yet they beat everybody in ratings. Could it be that most people don't share the retard liberal mind set?

And is also polled as the most trusted name in news by a liberal polling company.

FOXNews isn't an elected public official who can enact policies that harm the USA.

Obama hasn't skinned a fox, because the fox has thicker skin than he has.

Of course proven yet once again anyone or any organization that opposes the Obamanation.....will be under fire...anyone speaking against Obama...which is why he wishes to hinder Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press......how dare anyone speak against him....the audacity.......makes him look like a pouting spoiled child that isn't getting his way....wahhhhhh.......many Presidents have been dealt blows by press and people....deal with it as any other and I use the term loosly digintarian would do....suck it up and focus on what you should be focusing on policies and constructive growth......not tearing the constitution to shreds.....as the fore fathers once again turn in their graves

No, any organization that perverts professional journalism will be exposed and hopefully ignored....more and more. Screw POX and the people who watch that crap. Sure it's a choice to watch it but it clearly defines the enemy of the US. The people who support the Just Say No GOP, the people who are not smart enough to know that they are just supporting Big Corporate, and above all the people of racist leanings who cling to the party or shill news that best supports their hatred and ignorance based agendas. How can truth be destructive?

I have to agree with Sea here. What's the big deal? There are FAR more constructive things that our president could and should be doing other than worrying about what a news (I guess, I don't watch it or any other)channel has to say. He needs to grow thicker skin and realize that every president before him has dealt with negativity. He acts like this is something new and exclusive to him. Grow a pair "Obama the Oballess"

Also the reason Faux news has higher ratings than CNN or MSNBC is because most liberals and enlightened folks read newspapers.

Actually POX only leads on cable...ABC, NBC, CBS still kick their arses..and since POX is Not news it even gets beat by reruns of Survivor.

Actually, I'm just pro USA. But I'm not a Democrat, I'm a Goldwater Republican. Which means I'm completely embaressed by what these dumbfu** Reagan/Evangelical Republicans are doing as a party.

You know what Congress and the US senate voted to allow President Bush the power to make that decision because they would not hold culpability in the public eye a basic political move to do what they didn't have the guts to vote for or against the lillilivered pieces of cowardice bull crap.......based on information received by the FBI and CIA information...now since George W. Was soooo stupid in the Democratic liberalists views......how would he ever be smart enough to understand he might have been lied to by the administration at hand and maybe he wasn't ....maybe the govermental agencies were mislead by someone else and maybe no one was mislead maybe they snuck things through underground tunnels as suspected previously.....u know what who the hell knows.....the point is 911 happened and the decisions were made no matter culpability you can't take it back......so deal with it.......the problem is too many people set in too extremist like fashion to party loyalty instead of looking beyond and finding a happy medium between fiscal responsibilty and social welfare programs and to bring everything back into focus compromise a program for a 10 percent tax accross the board....if its necessary.......whatever works because this stale mate of political party war is both wearying and useless to accomplishment of goals of socialism and profitability somewhere in between
