so how do the eggs come to contain salmonella anyway?

There's three ways. 1. It can infect the chickens ovaries and enter the egg before the shell is hardened. 2. It can get on the shells when the chickens sit on them and the shells just aren't cleaned well enough. 3. Once in a while the Easter Bunny gets P.O.'d about having to work on Sunday and does a bit of tampering.

if the easter bunny isnt the culprit then why did four months and 380 million eggs go by without being regularly screened?

Yeah, what he said....through the ovaries.....saw it on the news today....TOTALLY wild!!! Couldn't believe the amount of eggs that went bad....HUGE amount....I guess HUGE isn't the word for it....

Actually, the recalled eggs are no older than 3 months old. I have a feeling that they're playing it safe and recalling back further than they're aware of. The FDA is pretty specific about large producers screening eggs, so I doubt that was the issue. The recall was done by "health officials" (read government). Have they ever done anything in a timely manner? Chances are that considering the losses involved the producer likely wasn't in a rush to make a recall that large in the first place (let alone the bad press).

Yeah, what he said....through the ovaries.....saw it on the news today....TOTALLY wild!!! Couldn't believe the amount of eggs that went bad....HUGE amount....I guess HUGE isn't the word for it.... 380+ million aren't actually bad. They're recalling that many just because there's a possibility that there MAY be a chance that an egg(s) could be infected within certain batches and they're covering their ***. |

Sheesh!...I know it's not possible for a lot of people, but I am so grateful I live here, with the space for a chicken pen, and our own free range, fresh organic eggs everyday. |
