This is from the director Emerson Bixby:

"made several copies to send to small-time distribution companies, and nothing ever happened. None of the distributers responded, and the ten or so copies kept by myself and some of the crew are -- to my knowledge -- all that remains of "Dead End." My copy was lost in '87, and I have lost contact with pretty much everyone involved."

First, seems like a convenient excuse in case anyone asks him for proof. Second, then how did the reviewer on IMdB see it at his friend's house.

I have another theory. Maybe he does have a copy and it was never distributed. Or he was telling the truth that it was rejected. And all this intrigue about the film WILL make help it become the holy grail by reputation. Then, after everyone is talking about this mysterious and great zombie film, he will miraculously find a copy. laugh

I mean, for a no to low budget film that has been rejected, it's a pretty good strategy. bigsmile

You know, if that were true it would be a brilliant strategy, it is building up a reputation amongst the horror community...timing is everything.

On that post I linked to someone mentioned other films Bixby was involved in- Savannah from 1989, it also seems to be one of those lost films, I mean it does happen. Films get made, sometimes they can't find a distributor, or the distributor goes out of business before releasing the film. Any ways, I love killer animal flicks, and Savannah is one of them.

Though it does make me wonder why Emerson Bixby couldn't find a distributor for his flick, look at all the low budget horror crap that did find distributors back then. I mean, The Last Slumber Party found one, and has actually gotten released on DVD!

Exactly! And look at some crappy movies that get uploaded at host sites like You Tube. They usually show a sample there to get a following before releasing it.

It also sounds fishy that none of the people that supposedly got involved in the making of the film and ultimately got a copy now has lost theirs or cannot be found. There has to be a twist in the scheme of things! laugh

I know! Not one person involved has uploaded it?
I just saw that one of the two reviewers is on the board for Emerson Bixby claiming he's seen 2 copies but wasn't able to get them at the time...AMAZING that he's seen 2 copies, and the director has seen zero.

Well, if it is an eeeeveeel plan, it is ingenious! Everyone in the horror community has already coined it the holy grail of all zombie films, doubters and believers alike. laugh If it does get released, I know I would watch it, if only to satisfy my curiosity, which is what the eeeeveeel plotters are hoping for, me thinks. bigsmile

Oh I would definitely watch it, and I would hope it would have an audio commentary with those involved!

Not only as a zombie film curiosity, but also as a pre-Blair Witch style film....I mean besides Cannibal Holocaust can you think of a horror film that used this technique before Blair Witch/The Last Broadcast came along?

Nope, can't think of anything earlier than those.

Which in some ways really makes me lean towards the film being BS, sort of like he came up with the idea because of the films like Blair Witch.

I've been scouting other horror threads and I think there is a person starting all this hooplah. He has similar posts among the different sites and what is suspicious is that he posts replies to no one in particular and says, "this is appearently the holy grail of zombie films, you will not be disappointed with this one. if its ever found... "

Now is that fishy or what? laugh

Someone needs to call him out on it and ask about things in the movie, or to post screen captures.

I remember someone asked about it on the General Horror Thread over at IMdB, one person claimed to have seen it, when asked about it, they were only able to describe 1 scene, the same scene 1 of the reviewers posted for the movie.

Another thing I've noticed is that when I tried to find links for the movies, the sites that claim to have the movie will lead you to sites where you need to sign up to stream. One site has a purchase DVD link and it led me to a page where I can purchase Wrong Turn. So it can also be a marketing hoax? laugh

I've actually run into that for a few movies I've tried looking for, like Screams Of A Winter Night.

It is possible for horror films to be seen but not available(at least easily on VHS or even other media), some films I have, and have seen are 4th and 5th generation copies.

OR sometimes they're only available from over seas, which is weird, a movie made in the States, but not available in the States, good example of this are the 2 Paul Kener movies:

Wendigo 1978

Savage Water 1979

Here's some art that was totally misleading-

I kept passing this by when I saw it in the video store when it was released. I thought it was about a boy bandlaugh But watching it a few years ago I got a pleasant surprise. It's a fun little horror flick(no boy band, and I don't think the guys in that pic are even in the movie), plus some great effects as usual by the underrated Ed French- who has worked on Sleepaway Camp, The Stuff, CHUD, and more recently on The Midnight Meat Train.

I know I'm pretty much alone on this, but I love-

My only complaint is Mamie Van Doren didn't reprise her role from Las Vegas Hillbillys as Boots Malone.
