Ok, a couple of months ago I asked about Mocking birds and you guys helped me get rid of them (or at least leave the dogs alone when they went outside).
I have feeding the birds about 2 years or so, outside my front window by about 10 feet. The feeder hangs from a branch and its made so only the little birds can perch and eat. Even sm. doves can't get on it. The excess falls on the ground and then the others get it. About 8 months ago, a wounded femalwe pigeon showed up, limping badly, standing only on one leg. She never went near the feeder, I put down a bowl of water for her, it was like she want companionship and that was it. Slowly she has healed but still walks with a limp. After about 3 months, one morning she has a boyfriend. Hmmmmm. So, I just watched, they showed up every morning, she'd be around almost all the time. Last wk, there were about 10 of her 'friends' that showed up. They have no respect, push all the little birds away, even the doves, to go after the falling seed. This am, almsot 20. Any one have any suggestions on how to get rid of these pests? I'm losing my regulars. I go out and chase them, Little Dog isn't interested and Jack is way too old. |

Have you tried tanglefoot?
It doesn't hurt them but it will repel all birds. Maybe when you get rid of the pesty ones you can get the others back http://www.nixalite.com/tanglefoot.aspx |

I suppose a shotgun with #7 shot is out of the question?

birds are smart animals, I would suggest a pellet gun. Its silent and will send a message to the pigeons. Unfortunately as long as you have feed out they will come. they are opportunistic feeders and will be hard stop unless you stop putting feed out for a month or two. |

Pigeons-aka Ghetto Chickens......Rats with wings.
Seagulls fall into the same category. |
Pepper in the feed. usually work.

you may also want to change your feeder, they have some with adjustments that close it off to the larger birds and squirrels
Eat them.

Eat them.
It's not the feeder, but what goes to the ground underneath it. Maybe changing feeders with a broader base might work, will have to look at it..Hurting them is NOT a option. Will also check out the tanglefoot, not feeding might have to be the thing to get them discouraged. Thanks you guys, for all the help. well, almost all of it. |
