I got an old Powerbook G4, which I got for free, since neither the owner and neither the "repair shop" could fix it. It basically just had a bad charger adapter and the hard disk had some sector failures on it, which I fixed by formatting the hard drive.
laugh

Anyway..since I didn't have OSX for it (ok I tried a pirate version), I kept search for a Linux distribution that would work on it. I just don't feel like spending 130 bucks for OSX right now, plus I'm not convinced it would work on it, since this is an old machine, and I neither would want an older OSX (10.3 or less), because it has no support anymore and various things just won't work (like flash graphics and video plugins on the web)

There was an old ubuntu version, which did work, but it was horrible and it didn't have support.

The funny thing is, yesterday I looked up if the newest Ubuntu would support it and it does! Intel based Macs has no problem running any Linux distros , but the power pc chip does so there is where the problem lies.

The newest Ubuntu distro works flawlessly on my old G4.

There was really no "online" in the 80s.

Why do you computer, techno brainiacs always talk over my head about things so entirely relevant to the very air I breathe ... sad

I need the dumb it down translations ... Or a techno sidekick ...

Even when I often, marginally grasp the basis concepts, I haven't a clue how to do what is recommended!

End rant, sob story ...

You should be able to run Leopard on your Powerbook G4 but it needs a DVD drive to install. If your laptop only has a cd drive, you have to download a torrent of the cd version which is harder to find. The DVD version requires a dual layer DVD burner to burn the iso file.

wow all that! sounds very interesting I love to learn new things, but I think Atlantis75 will be annoyed because this will shift his topic off. I would be happy to continue this conversation in the chitchat section. =]

HawaiiMusikMan thanks man I learned from your post.
