Gee "Martyrs" is alot more GORE than any movie I ever saw...

I guess no one's seen it..

I always considered gore and horror two different genres. Although, some directors have been able to combine both real well.

my vote go to The Exorcist. i caught the rerelease in theaters back in the late 90's (can't remember when they released "the version you've never seen before"), and was the 1st horror flick to ever scare me.

annnnd i'm gonna go with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, definitely some damned creepy imagery

Not two different genres. Gore is a part of horror. For me horror is made up of many different sub-genres and types. One of the reasons it's my favorite film genre.

I've seen it several times and own it on DVD. Not the goriest I've seen, excellent movie though.

My Idea of a good Horror Film is when a woman just won't watch it. Martyrs is the only film on dvd I have seen that no woman I know, can watch it all the way through.

Now that's a real Horror Movie.

i've never seen it, but your last remark raises a question with me: you said before that it have a huge gore factor, but is it actually a good movie? or just gore for the sake of gore?

Depends on the woman , I know one lady who is far more into the extreme than I am...she's actually one of my contacts for when I'm searching out some of the more disturbing horror films.

Even though you didn't ask me...you should watch it E, it's not just for the sake of gore. It's a really excellent revenge flick.

The first one that comes to mind is Hell Raiser, the first one shown in the 1980's. Of course, this is because I've seen this as a child and it stuck to me.

If you really want something, um, different, you may want to watch Audition. This is a Japanese horror film made in the 1990's by Takashi Miike who is known for his disturbing and grisly torture sequences. Such was the impact of the horror scenes of 'Audition' that many of the viewers had to be hospitalized out of terrible shock. Even the famous horror film directors Rob Zombie and John Landis found it difficult to watch the film.

That reminds me of those gimmicks for some of the horror movies from the 60's and 70's where they would have a nurse on stand by in the lobby, and they'd have audience members buy a Life insurance policy before going in. Or they show a guy being brought out of the theater in a straight jacket because the movie drove him mad!

LOL! Really? But it is a good horror film. Have you seen it? If not, you should. Miike's horror films is not something a horror fan should miss.

Oh and are men in white coats always on guard at the doors when you're out watching?

Yes, there were a lot of gimmicky tricks to get in the audiences back then. William Castle was a master of this(Watch the film Matinee, John Goodman plays a Castle inspired character)

If you rent/watch 42nd Street Forever, Volume 1 it's a collection of vintage grindhouse trailers, you can see some of these gimmicks used.

Another good one is A Tale of Two Sisters and Old Boy, which are Korean horror films shown around 2003.

Of course, by now, everyone knows Ringu, but at the time, it is one of the scariest, in my opinion.
