...at 12:10pm...

I ran out of smokes and decided it was time for me to quit smoking.

I have been smoking a pack per day since I was 13.

I am quitting for a couple of reasons.

First one being....I have someone now that I want to be with for a long, long time.

Second..all the males on my mom's side of the family have died before the age of 50 due to heart problems. My Dad recently had a heart attack too. I figure I have a double whammy headed my way.

My heart is still in good shape, but I turned 40 last year and I really don't want to take chances with my health.

I have gone from a pack and a half per day down to three cigs MAX.

I AM going to quit these things.

I've heard it is relatively easy when you are down to only three a day. At that point smoking is just there so you do it, removing them is the next step. Best of luck.

Yeah. I did that in two days.

Today...I had one when I woke up. One at dinner time at work..and one when I got home tonight.

I know I can beat this thing.

You're quitting for the right reason, which is yourself, rather than quitting because someone is telling you to do so. You have motivation as well. You'll be able to do it.

Yep. I knew very well that quitting because someone else told me to was pointless.

But...hearing her tell me that she wanted me around for a long time made me start thinking about the health situation in my family. quit.

Realizing what I did about my family...that made me realize that I really HAVE to stop killing myself slowly or it might not wind up being as slow as I thought.

Best of luck, it's a hard thing to do. I would wind up killing someone if I stoppedlaugh

Ya know....things at work are horrible right now.

I thought the same thing.

Figured I would get so stressed out that I would wind up choking someone.

So far...it hasn't been all that bad.

Hiya Pats. Good to see ya, man.drinker

Hey, good luck, Guy! I quit a year and a half ago. I got Wellbutrin to quit. That helped. Once I got down to 3 a day, I figured wtf, why bother to keep buying them?

I'm on day 15. Quit cold turkey on my Dad's birthday. I smoked for 26 yrs...was up to a pack and a half or two a day! It's hard but my dad is battling cancer right now. If he can fight that, I can fight this damn demon.

I've tried to quit a few other times without much success, but this time is different, although I really can't say why. I just decided that I've had enough. It's the one vice that's had me in its grip no matter how much I've struggled to get free, until now.

I can't say it'll be easy but I can say that it sucks a little less each day. Here's the logic I'm using this time around:

I might not get what I want just because I quit smoking, but I know I'll never get what I want if I don't.

I'll always be a smoker. I just choose not to smoke today. I can't think about never smoking again. That's too overwhelming. I can however go a day without 'em. And what do you know, they add up. bigsmile

You can do it JAG! If you need support, you know where I'm at. Good luck my friend! flowerforyou

Good luck! My Grandpa lived to be 100, he told me that he didn't smoke for the first 20 or the last 20, but he did for the 60 in the middle. He just decided one day that he "wasn't spending another dime on those damned things!" He kept that last pack in his shirt pocket until the guys he worked with bummed them all and never bought any more. When that man made up his mind about something that was that. You can do that, too, you've decided being a nonsmoker is best for you so just be stubborn enough to make it so!

No matter what anyone else tells us about smoking. The only way we will ever quit is when we find that one reason or goal that fits our needs and kicks in the will power in order for us to want to quit.

I found that reason 7 years ago this last January when my granddaughter Kaitlynn was born..........

I was up to three packs a day and yes I actually enjoyed smoking. But.......she was coming home to live at my house and had to be under oxygen for a week. Due to being born early and she was struggling to breath as it was...........that was my reason..........there is no better reason then love for another...........

Keep up the good work
