Of course I'm pulling for USA but this year especially, FIFA is really overhyped, big deal or not. 2010 has seen the most marketing ever for this sport, you cannot deny that.

I see England kicking the Germans azzes. Yes thats what I said, England. The got the potential just haven´t used it yet. They just have to get their shizzit together. England needs to figure out how to score, and fast. Germany knows how to, if they get scoring early, England won't have much of a chance. |

I think it is just that here in the states football (soccer) is just catching on...with the popularity comes the advertising. For me it is great because I've always loved the game. This is some fine play right now. Many smaller countries fielding excellent teams. Close hard fought matches. Very entertaining and inspiring. Great coverage! I particularly appreciate ESPN. Thank You, ESPN! |

I think the best course is for the referee to start hammering down on these things and start flashing that yellow card for the fakers. |

The rule against simulation of an injury or "diving" is on the books.
Enforce it. Make it a reviewable offense which can result in suspensions after a match has been played. Hold coaches responsible as well. Make it a team foul. Whew. Now I feel better. Best of luck to team USA today with Ghana!! |

Just for the record.........
No EUROPEAN country has ever won the "JULES RIMET TROPHY" outside its own continent!!!!!!!. This is the CURSE of the European Nations!!!!! It is a JINX !!!!!!!! Latest statistics, reveal, that the CURSE or JINX (call it what may); may continue this year as well...... Of the 16 nations that have qualified for the Pre-Quarter Finals, 10 are non-Europeans, whilst only 6 are Europeans. All the 5 Latin-American teams have qualified for the pre-quarter finals. Fixtures for the Round of 16 is such, that only 3 European teams can qualify for the Quarter Finals. This means 3 Europeans teams out of a total of 8. Looks like a forlorn hope for the EUROPEANS !!!!!!!!! |

US soccer has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few decades.
There is obviously much more interest whenever we have an outstanding team in international competition but the reason we have such a team is because of the expanding number of American players. It's great! |

is it ALWAYS a big deal. maybe the american stations are hyping it because america is actually in it this year and they don't seem to care about much if they aren't involved? The FIFA World Cup is ALWAYS a big deal world wide. As a matter of fact, the 1994 FIFA World Cup was hosted by the United States. Average attendance was nearly 69,000, which broke records that had stood since 1950, due to the bigger capacities of the American stadiums compared to those of Europe and Latin America. The total attendance for the final tournament of nearly 3.6 million remains the highest in World Cup history, despite the expansion of the competition from 24 to 32 teams (and from 52 to 64 matches) in 1998. The USA played in that edition as host and even entered the Pre-Quarter Finals, only to lose to the eventual winner Brazil by a solitary goal, and that too in the most controversial of circumstances. Since then, the USA has always played in all the FIFA World Cup.... 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010. To say that the American stations are hyping it because the USA is involved in it and that they do not care if they aren't involved, is a total distortion of facts. |

Too bad US are always giving up an easy first goal a few minutes into the game!!

To the US Players: Good job, and Good run. You won the group, which you weren't expected to do, no turn your focus to 2014, and let's prepare to Own the cup then.
To Ghana: I expect World Cup athletes to play with class. Apparently that was too much to ask of you, as you continually found the ground without assistance in Extra Time. |

I was really hoping to see them in the finals... maybe hold the cup. |

We do have the talent in some areas to compete (we did beat the World #1 team in the Confederation Cup last year) But with the defense we had at the Cup, the Top teams would have eaten us alive. If we can get more consistent on defense, and keep improving everywhere else on the pitch as well, there is no reason why we shouldn't be talking about as a likely Cup winner in 4 years. |

It's a long time, but a lot can happen. Look at Italy and France, they played in the 2006 World Cup Final, this year, they exit after the group stage. The MLS is really booming now (looking to be @ 20 teams by 2012) as long as there is enough interest gained, the US can really start growing some awesome talent. We are already a decent way there, as most of the US players play in European Soccer Leagues. |
