Went to visit my neighbor and told him I moved here in 2004. He said he has lived there for 20 years and doesn't know anybody.

Well, I wasn't going to stop but I noticed the concrete work he had been doing. It seems my dog and his dog are being friendly. Any friend of my dog I figure the dog's owner might be worth getting to know. My dog is female and his dog is male.

I keep my relationship with neighbors to a "hi, how are you" type of deal.
I have discovered the hard way, what your neighbors say to your face is usually not what they tell all your other neighbors. |

I always try to stay cool with the neighbors. If for no other reason than hoping for the courtesy of a walk-by before they call the cops for a noise complaint. But... I've honestly had some pretty cool neighbors. Last one actually sawed a tree out of our electric lines. Stand-up fellow.
Good fences make good house parties... not good neighbors. |

Well, my dog seems to be friendly with everybody who is human but has been selective with other dogs. Maybe that is just dog nature.

Maybe. Cheers, then, to your dog finding a new friend!

I have lived here for 22 years and know the original neighbors all very well. We raised our kids together. Some have moved and the new neighbors I just wave and say hi to. Most are young couples with children and I don't have alot in common with them. I am fortunate to live in a neighborhood where everyone is there for each other. One gentleman across the street snowblows everyone's sidewalk when we have a big storm and if someone goes on vacation in the summer a neighbor will take it upon themselves to mow the lawn. We just look out for each other without getting in each other's business.

I'm pretty friendly with the neighbors on either side of me. Even though he's a nice guy, this one neighbor is a little strange- as in I wouldn't be surprised at all if I saw him walking around in his backyard wearing a tinfoil helmet.

I think its good for neighbors to keep things 'neighborly',, to know each other and look out for each other
sadly, I havent done a great job of it and I suspect I am in the majority |

Went to visit my neighbor and told him I moved here in 2004. He said he has lived there for 20 years and doesn't know anybody. It's very sad..and trust me it's a national phenomena. People don't even trust or know their neighbors. I noticed this. People are very antisocial and I could not understand for the life of me why that is..I'm coming from a place in my children years where I pretty much knew the entire village, even though I was like 14. I know 3 neighbors around me, I talk to them time to time about everything, another house next to me just got emptied the house on sale, and another just moved in, but they aren't even try to be friendly, I don't know why, I always say "hi" every time I see one of them, they never reply. It's been going on for 6 years. |

really ,, it seems a simple answer to a complex problem so I will qualify this opinion by stating I am aware of MANY factors contributing to the decline of communities and neighborhoods
that being said as the family goes,, so goes the community,,, I think slowly,, as more and more homes started seeing both parents work outside the home, and then media expanding for those children to have access to so much more on their televisions,, and internets,,,, and then technology adding to it with the introduction of web and television and movie capable telephones its a wonder we have ANY neighbors left,, people just dont socialize with each other in real time so much anymore,, not even in their own homes... |

I move about every 2 years and am moving again in January so I figure there's no point in getting to know my neighbors.

My neighbors are precisely that - neighbors. I see no reason to consider them anything else, especially friends. Y' never know when one of 'em will discuss your information with people you'd rather not have that information. The principle of 'Trust nothing' works very well in the real world.

If you love thy neighbor they give better candy at Halloween. |
