Topic: Moving out of state? | |
---|---|
I want to move out of state, but I don't know where to start. I have an idea on where I want to move, but I'm not sure how to do it.
I mean, should I save up some money (which is impossible) and get a place where I want to move to and file for unemployment until I find a job? If I have to save up money, I will never be able to leave. How have you done it? What's the best and quickest way to go about this? Any suggestions? Job transfer is not an option. |

I have made quick moves like that before, I was fortunate to have friends in the new state I was going that gave me a place to stay..helped me out till I got o my feet. Is that an option for you as to where your going?

Saving money would be difficult on unemployment I would think. Do you have a time line your working on?

you should definetly save up at least $1000 before you move, then just pick a place you would enjoy and move then waste no time and get a job... if you have more questions email me!

I was hoping to be out by now, but as soon as possible. I've been thinking about for a while. Saving up is pretty much impossible.

Why the rush now? Sometimes preparation is needed. I have done it many times with my kids..a game plan is necessary.

You should have roughly 1,000 dollars, at least 7-9 hundred. I would recommend you move somewhere that you know someone that can help you out, it is difficult at best to move without a job to go too or money coming in.

If you move to a new state, would you be able to get unemployment or something until you find a new job?

You can't just quit your job and collect unemployment. You have to fit certain requirements from different states.
Also, when you choose a city, I suggest checking craigslist for a place to sub-lease in the city for a few months so you can learn your way around, find a job without being trapped in a lease, and just be able to find out what area of the city you like best before you sign one of your own. |

If you have a city in mind, try the online newspapers to see how much an apartment in the area runs (that way you will know what salary will be livable). Check out the help wanted ads and see if they are job choices you will be ok with. You can usually apply on line for jobs. It would be a good thing to have your job lined up first so that you know you have an income when you get there. You are only 24 so you could look into "hostels" in the area of choice. A hostel is a cheap place to stay with just a bed and locker and sometimes with more than one bed in a room. There are age limits and time limits of stay but it will give you a place other than your car for maybe a week (depending on their limit). A son of mine traveled Europe and had good experiences with hostels. You could also look into couch-surfing if you are adventurous (as a parent I cringe at giving this advice), but again another child had wonderful experiences across the country. You might even consider looking up distant relatives?? Good luck, but remember, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Those are some good tips.
I'm not adventurouse enough for couch surfing. A hostel may work out, if I can find one. |
